HSG or Clomid -- Need some Opinions

I need some advice.......I have really long cycles (45 days with ovulation on day 34). I had the normal fertility blood work and it came back okay, with the exception of LH which came back high (suggesting slight PCOS)

My progesterone levels after ovulation also came back very high, which the doctor actually thought I was pregnant, but of course I wasn't.

With all that being said, I'm scheduled for an HSG on Tuesday, just as

i beleive I HAD to do the HSG before CLomid because they don't want to risk anything by giving you a drug that INCREASE the follicles on your ovaries if your tubes are blocked...that could be a bad thing I think.

Ask them WHY you have to choose. If you get the HSG done in the first days of the cycle as is standard, after a beta to make sure you're not pregnant, there is no reason why the two should be mutually exclusive. Other than if they already suspect you may have a blockage or malformation of the uterus? If there is already that suspicion, that is different. But without that, I would think you could do both at the same time.

I did my HSG around CD18, I think, which is unusual. My RE said my hormones looked like CD6, so that plus a beta to make sure I wasn't PG meant that it wasn't an issue. He even said I could do Clomid right after that! But I said I'd rather wait to get another AF first, then try it. So that's what we did.

If the doctor does insist on your choosing, I would do the HSG. Trust me, you don't want to blow a Clomid cycle in case there is something structural wrong. (Usually it only makes sense to do up to 3-4 Clomid cycles before moving on to something else.) If your cycles tend to be long, you may be able to get them to give you progesterone to bring on another AF a little sooner so you don't have to wait as long.

Good luck!
