I am having my HSG done on Thursday and just read a ton of comments from women on

http://stirrup-queens.blogspot.com/2006/07/hsg-hysterosalpingogram.html

and I have successfully worked myself up into the worst panic attack ever. :(

But I'm curious ... is there a time period you have to refrain from sex?! Thursday is CD10 for me and I normally O on CD13. I planned to start the BDing the next night.

Help!

I believe you have to hold off from bding for 24 hours after the hsg, but each dr is different on their reccommendations. I would call your dr and ask. Sometimes medications are prescribed that could be detrimental to a pg but I don't think it would be in your system long enough to affect a pg that might happen.

In regards to what you read online please try not to take it all to heart. I have not had an hsg but I did have an endo biopsy and I went reading about other women's experiences and really freaked myself out about it and how painful it was going to be so when I had it done I was really tense and nervous which I think made it worse. However it was tolerable, it definately was not comfortable and was kinda painful but once again it was tolerable. I was supposed to have an hsg done but then I went to an RE who didn't feel the need to do it since I have an issue with sustaining not getting. So I did talk to my aunt about it since she had it done years ago and she said it was uncomfortable and at times a little painful but she said it was worth it in end for answers. Also afterwards some women are more fertile so just keep thinking about that. Also you could ask your Dr to set everything up so you can see the screen yourself so you can distract yourself during the procedure. I hope it goes well for you and that it helps. Good luck !

I had my HSG this cycle on CD 9 and we BD'd on CD10.

The HSG was not very painful. It wasn't pleasant but not unbearable.

The key is to relax.

The lady Dr was very gentle and kept asking if I was OK.

Good Luck and don't worry.

I've had an HSG done and it wasn't that bad. Just be sure you take Advil or Tylenol before hand. The cramps really aren't worse than AF cramps, and afterward they just linger a while. As far as BD after, you might not feel like it, but if you do, I've heard a lot of people say their fertility is enhanced because of the dye they use to see your tubes and many women are able to conceive just because they had the HSG done. I think it has something to do with kinda "cleaning the pipes"... HTH! Good Luck :-)

My doctor put me on anti-biotics & said because of that it was ok to go ahead & have sex. She said if I weren't on the antibiotics then we'd have to wait a few days.
