Hypothyroid and ttc?

I'm wondering if anyone has been diagnosed as hypothyroid and how that effects your cycles? My grandmother was hypothyroid and my mom is hypothyroid. My mom was diagnosed when she miscarried her first pregnancy and then went on to have three successful pregnancies. I don't think it effected her ability to get pregnant, she said she had no problems getting pregnant, whatever that means. (Although I think she was taking thyroid meds. w/ 3 of 4 pregnancies).

About two years ago I asked to be tested for my thyroid but the levels came back normal. I don't necessarily have any symptoms except family history, irregular cycles (late o and long cycles these first 6 months off bc) and my temps tend to run on the low side, sometimes in the 96s. I'm just wondering if you can get a normal reading and still be hypothyroid and how this effects ovulation etc. If anyone has any experience, let me know. My mom doesn't know I'm ttc otherwise I'd be asking her all this. Thanks!

Okay, I don't know if I will be much help here, but I will tell you what I know.
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was 12. I have been on medication for it ever since, and the dosage has been increased 3 times I think. When I was diagnosed, I remember my mom told me that the doctor had to run two different kinds of thyroid tests on me to get the best idea of what was going on. I *think* it TSH and T4. I could be wrong on the names, but I know that when I have my thyroid checked each time I make sure that they have checked both. Now, as far as ttc, I had no problems getting pregnant with DD while having this. My friend was having a really hard time ttc, and went in for tests and found that her thyroid was low, and they put her on medication. She then conceived the first cycle after starting her meds! They told her that was most likely the cause of her troubles.
If I were you I would google all the types of thyroid tests they give and then ask your doctor to make sure you were tested for them all, then you can know for sure if you have any problems in that area!

HTH!

Thanks for your responses! Not sure I have hypothyroid because as I said, I have no symptoms and the tests showed showed normal. I think I am just curious and looking at all possible factors that might be making ttc difficult. I'm also getting ready to talk to my doctor, so I will use your suggestions. Thanks again.

Hi there,

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism over the summer. I actually had gone to my obgyn as my cycles were long (e.g., 7 days of spotting, 6 days of AF, total = 13 days of misery!) and I was worried that something was up with progesterone or

Thanks I will do that. How has the medication you are on now affecting your cycles? Has it helped w/ the pre-af spotting?
