I need advice

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie not only to this board, but also to the whole conception thing. Let em give you some background. I'm 24. My husband and I have been married 3 years come this January. H'es been disabled for two and a half years now. We are finally getting to the point where we can try for kids. My mom took 7 years to have me, and I am an only child. I may be a woman, but the most I truly new about actively trying for a baby is, well, you know the basic stuff. I've been following some of the convos on these boards and am shocked, and a little terrified at the complexities that some of these courageous women go through daily to achieve this goal. I am nervous that I'm not doing this right, or that I won't get pregnant because I am not monitoring temperatures and such. I have never monitored my period, had no idea how "long" my "cycle" was. My mom and I never truly even had a talk about periods when I was a kid. It was just something that happened.

To start off this process, I bought a digital ovulation kit. I had my period from Nov. 3rd until Nov. 10th. From what I read on my ovulation kit, I should start testing yesterday. So, I did and so far its a no-go. I'm just stressing, and I don't want to. I'm hoping for some advice from you seasoned vets. I hope this isn't too crazy.

Also, just for fun, where do you guys get those cute little tags at the bottom of your pages?

thanks in advance!!

Hi! Welcome to the board. First, don't get discouraged! Secondly, don't stress! Don't jump into everything at once, I.e chartin and such, I never did the charting, but u might want to keep track of ur cycle write them down is very helpful (also for your doctor if u decide go to one for its advices) , and pay more attention to your body's signs such as ur discharging, ovluation pains etc. Just chose whatever method works for you and fits in ur lifestyle. You also should speak to your doctor also mention about ur mother's long years of ttc'ing sometimes those things are genetic but don't forget the medical are so much better those days now. If u don't mind me asking what disablity does your husband have? Sorry if u feel offended for me to ask u that, for the tags and tickers some of them u can click on it it'll lead u to the website for it. Hope this helps! Good luck

Hey!!

I do not use OPK's (ovulation predictor kits). But I do temp. (basal temp.). It is helpful because it is the only sign that is truely showing what your body pattern is. It is helpful but also stressful. You have to buy

Hi Kirsty,

Welcome to ivillage and welcome to TTC.

I'm Julie, 34 from the UK and DH (Dear Husband) is 36 and we are TTC our first child.

Don't be too daunted with charting etc, it works for some people, it doesn't for others.

As has been said, keep a diary of your CM (Cervical Mucus), how long AF is etc because that can help you know where you are in your cycle.

OPK's can be good, but some people never actually get a dark second line even though they Ovulate. To get the line your surge of LH (Lutinizing Hormone) has to be happening around the time you test. I never get a really dark line, but the lines do get almost as dark as the control line.

Fertility Friend (fertilityfriend.com) is a good place to start with having an electronic diary, you can use it even if you don't actually take your temp. It is also good because it sends you emails for the few days with 'lessons' on them so you understand your body better.

After all I think we all pretty much only knew the basics. We have spent so long trying not to get pregnant, that it seems like getting pregnant should be easy right?

I have read a really good book by Toni Weschler called
