Idea for TTC'ers

OK I have a new idea and would like to hear your opinions!!!

My theory originates from a book I read a long time ago about apes, there was some information about gorillas (I think) and how by having sex more often their sperm count increased. My memory is quite hazy and I have not been able to find the book or any info on the internet (any sperm count information links you know of? I'd be very interested!)

So my idea is to BD every day or every other day THROUGHOUT the cycle, then give DH a rest for a few days leading up to ovulation, then BD the two days before and the day of ovulation.

Does this make ANY sense (apart from the practicalities of BDing so much)?

Please tell me your thoughts!!!

Hi there,

Interesting origin for the idea. We BD almost every day, since that is the only thing that matters in trying to get pregnant! No charts or temps "yet"...just the old fashioned way. We'll see how it goes, this is first time TTC. LOL

I don't know anything at all about building up sperm count but as far as increasing the odds of getting pg. by bd'ing all the time - I remember reading an article by Toni Weschler (author of TCOYF) here on Parentsplace that more or less said that you can bd all you want but it's only a few days where it really 'counts' as far as your fertility goes...so I'd pay more attention to cm and maybe get an ovulation kit as well to better pinpoint your most fertile days...not that all the bd'ing wouldn't be FUN (!!!!) but personally I'd be afraid to have dh "going" all the time and lessening the amounts that were hopefully swimming upward and onward! (meaning, after abstaining for a few days, what comes out is usually a lot MORE than when you bd every day right?) I do know people who have decided to bd every other day after AF is gone but to me, I'd end up viewing it as more of a "chore" (bad choice of words but...) then to just try and make the MOST of it on the days when I know I'm most fertile :-) Good Luck - I hope whatever you end up doing, it gets you a bfp for you both!!!!!!!! Keep us posted on the results :-)

Well said Lolleeh! I agree too, DH and I BD a lot, because we are so into each other (even after 5 years of marriage LOL) and we are hoping a BFP will be the result of love and passion as much as the right timing! We BD about every other day usually. He is in his early twenties, so he is very *um* active :) Great post and great adive. thanks :)

DH and I tried to BD every other day one month. It did get quite tiring! :)

Another bit of info I found about sperm:

Researchers Baker and Bellis (1989):

If when making love a woman has no orgasm, or has one more than a minute before the man ejaculates, then very little of his sperm remains in her vagina.

If her orgasm was less than one minute before or up to 45 minutes later than his ejaculation, then most of his sperm stays in

In addition, the longer it was since she had previously had an orgasm, then the more sperm she retains.

Finally, the amount the man ejaculated related to whether the couple had been together during the day or apart. If they had been together, the amount was less than if they had been apart - consistent with the sending in the troops hypothesis.

Hi again1

Quick question because I think part of the sentence got cut off. The part when it says "if a woman has an orgasm 1 minute before or 45 min. after he ejaculates then the sperm ...??... (thats where it gets cut off). So, ideallt - what is the best situation in order to keep the sperm inside or on it;s way??

Thanks

Hi!

I have read (cannot remember where exactly...), that to keep sperm active, you should not have more than 5-7 days between BD all month. Also, at the time around O, you should not "save up" for more than 36-48 hours because then more dead sperm would build up. My doctor confirmed this theory for us - hopefully he is correct. We are trying to follow...we do BD every day around o though...

Good luck!

Hi starfish,

"if a woman has an orgasm 1 minute before or 45 min. after he ejaculates then the sperm STAYS IN!!!" :)

So, this is how I understand it ...

1. If you and DH spend time apart, his sperm count increases quicker than if you spend time together.

2. Refrain from having an orgasm before making love/during lovemaking, save your orgasm for after his (within 45 mins) - unless you can time it to within 1 minute before his, or simultaneous.

I'll be trying it this month!

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say something that may be TMI or uncomfortable to talk about. The percentage of men who "take care of themselves" on a daily basis is mind boggling. I've actually discussed this with my dh and told him that I don't want the details, but refrain from it for the 3 days around O so we have enough sperm to use for TTC. So on that note I don't think we really need to concern ourselves with building up or dead sperm. Most likely, if they are not bding...they're doing something else.

Just a thought
