Thanks so much for posting this. Although it's just my third cycle off BCP and ttc, so far I've had a short LP each time. And with my first pregnancy, I had a great deal of bleeding very early on and I'm still amazed my baby hung in there (much like yours!).
I visited my OB/GYN for a routine pap last month and told her I was concerned about my short LP, and reminded her how things went with the bleeding in my first pregnancy. She told me that the minute I get a BFP, to see her and she would test my progesterone levels and give me supplements if necessary, just to be proactive. This already makes me feel so much better.
I couldn't agree with you more that we need to-- well, take charge of our fertility (lol)! Having a great OB/GYN helps so much too!
I'm so glad that your doctor is so supportive and not blowing you off! That's definitely a good sign. :) I think there are a few things that are supposed to help with short luteal phases, like B vitamins and some other things. I never did them because I had a fertility consult scheduled, so I figured if I didn't get pregnant that last cycle, then the doctor would give me whatever I needed to fix the issue. But if you're not pregnant soon and still have the short LP, I'd probably ask for some help.
Since you know your LP, you must be tracking ovulation and trying to time BD, right? I would say other than that, I don't know of much you can do to lengthen your LP. But you can go on the June expecting club or July and look for a former member of the TTC board. Her name is Jenny and she had a short LP also and took some kind of herb or something, I can't remember, to lengthen her LP (And she got pregnant.) Her screen name is j8nny. She is due I think around July 1 so she frequents both boards.
I didn't do any of that, but I was taking prenatals and folic acid and I got pregnant. I had a lot of bleeding right before my BFP and ended up with a subchorionic hematoma and tear in the placenta because my lining starts to shed before the egg can get a firm grip on the uterus. (this happened with all three of my pregnancies because my LP is always short.)
