I have never had any experience with this but have read on this board that yes, you can use opks as a possible way to determine pregnancy...but I wouldn't count that as being more or as reliable as a regular pregnancy test...apparently, the hormone (hcg?) that is given off during ovulation and detected in an opk test, is the same hormone that is detected once you are pregnant...so if you are late and you got a positive opk, then I would DEFINITELY RUN RUN RUN to the store ---- you might verrrry well be pg.!!!!! Congrats :-) !!!

But if the OPK line is so light, what does that mean? I know it has to be dark to detect an LH surge... but since my period is late, thats what confuses me so.. could it be detecting hcg instead of the Lh?

In your shoes, I would go buy and HPT - then you won't have to wonder about the accuracy so much - unless you have OPK's that you're dying to use up... GL!

The test line on the OPK's can be light and all that means is that it has not detected a surge. When the line is the same darkness or darker it detected a surge. The only way it could predict pg. is if it is not as dark you could be pg. because you can ovulate at the same time you are pg. I hope this make sense and answers your question. Get a HPT.

I can only speak from my experience, but I took my hpt when I was 20 dpo, so I was pretty much sure I was pregnant. I also tried an opk at the same time because I had received a bunch of them from an internet order. The opk came out very positive, the test line was darker than the control line. I only tried it the one time. I have heard that if you use the opks over successive days and the line gets darker everyday it could indicate that you are pregnant. The best thing for you to do is to go get an HPT, it is the only sure way you will know.
