IUI and Clomid??

Hello,
I have been on the boards and I am not sure if my OBGYNs office has my mixed up. I just got a call that they are willing to do IUI with clomid. I haven't asked about that but they came out with it after going over DH results. I haven't had the HSG yet. Would they do the IUI before that?? I am confused and not sure what to do. DH is checking on the insurance and what they cover. He said that we can figure out how to pay for it if we need to. Also, our trip is in three weeks. SO we need to figure out what we are going to do.
Any advice??

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I don't mean to crash the board I have been lurking here for quit some time im an avid poster on IN VIRTO (IVF) board so I thought i would chime in.

From what I am getting this will be your first IUI right? What this will consist of is your will be refered to an RE they will have an initial consult with you and DH regarding backrounds and medical history they also will have you both do some blood work on that day moving foward they will have you both back in with the results and what protocal they think best fits the results.

Ok so from my experience they will have you start taking Clomid usually on your 3rd day of AF for about 5-7 days they will have you come in about a week and see how the Clomid is working how many follies they produce for you done by internal ultra sound also they have you do bloodwork each time they have you come in for ultra sounds so they can keep track of your e2 levels and another i can't think of the name. Once they see atleast 1 or 2 good size follies

Hello,

This would be the start of my infertility work. They called to tell me my best route is the IUI. SO yes this is my first and am a little scared.

My Obgyn is also and Infertility specialist/RE. My PCP refered me to her to have me checked out and help if there was anything wrong. I guess my big question would be is that if I get the IUI is there anything that I should refrain from doing? I should be Oing just days before I leave for a vacation/wedding in Greece. I will be relaxed for the first week or so of the wait. I just thought I would put that information out there.

I have read about the side effects of clomid. DId you have anything with the trigger shot??

thanks for the information.

Hi,

As for refraining from anything just the normal things when TTC as drinking because it can reduce the chance 50%, smoking the norm i guess. With IUI is not so much retricted as IVF. My best advice is to BD every other day because his swimmers need to rejuvinate and having bd everynight lowers those chances.

If your leaving for vacation after your IUI that is great so you can take your mind of the 2ww I have to say 2ww going through IUI or IVf is much more worse than trying naturally not that we all don't feel that pain and dissappointment after a BFN but going through fertility gets your hopes up 100% more because you feel oh this is definitly going to work because they have everything times from your ovulation to when ur follie is about to drop an egg so please what ever you do always have faith either way but don't out all your eggs in one basket. I have been going through fertility for 5+ yrs and no baby yet so Good Luck on this journey you will def need to reach out for IVF support but i trully hope THE FIRST TIME WORKS FOR YOU!!!!

With the Clomid I took at night less side effects as that can cause major migranes and your mood will turn mostly for the worst...Make sure to inform your dh because they will get scared...My RE had to sit him down and prepare him. But the good thing I didn't get so moosy I think i got more horny and I got major constipation. The trigger shot been different for me maybe because of meds changing but when I was on Clomid the trigger shot side effect I got was i definitly felt my follies enlarged and ovaries swollen but nothing else besides that. This cycle I am on injections and the trigger shot has made my boobs extra swollen and hurtful like I have to lift my boob into each bra...lol The trigget shot is filled with pregnancy symtons so I'm not surprised and you will get emotional all part of woman preg symptons so we don't try to compare because it could all still be meds.

It's really good your OB is an RE even better connection personally.

Good Luck,

Michelle

Thanks for all the information. I will be sitting down with DH tonight and we are going to see if we are going to do it this month as I might be starting a new job next month and have the time now.

thanks again.

Hello,
Sorry I have another question. Do you know how much an IUI costs? I found out that my insurance will not cover it. DH and I would like to find out soon to make a game plan.
Thanks for your help.

Hope you don't mind me throwing in my 2 cents. According to my RE, an IUI at his office is $235, and that covers the sperm prep and the actual procedure. Ultrasounds, meds, and bloodwork are extra, but my insurance covers diagnostics so I don't know how much they are (the generic clomid would've been $20 for 5 pills w/o rx insurance though).
I'm doing my first IUI with clomid round next cycle, which should start in about a week and a half. And I didn't have to do an HSG either. I don't know if they can see your tubes on a vaginal u/s, but my RE never said a thing about me needing one. So don't worry about it if yours doesn't suggest one :) Consider it a good sign, I guess.

Hope that helps. Best of luck to you, and enjoy your trip!!
