Hello everyone, I'm new here and I have a silly little Q. When you get a BFP with a home test which doctor do you go to to get you blood and urine testing done. your GYNO or primary care physican. Thanks for you time.

When I missed my period for 2 months and need a test done I went to my primary dr. They were able to do a urine test.

I actually have a similar question. I'm up for my annual exam and since I moved last year I haven't had one done. I've got a good primary doctor who can do this...but should I go to a gyno? I think I may have a midwife do the delivery when ever i get a bfp. Do they do annuals? Maybe I should go to the doctors she is affilated with?

Any help would be appreciated.

I go to a regular doctor for my yearly exams, and I have had a preg. test done there as well.(My Dr.'s office will do both a urine and/or blood test...I would assume it is that way at most Dr.'s offices.) My regular doctor also deals with pregnancy...but it might depend on the doctor you go to. We moved not too long ago as well, and I was nervous about finding a new doctor, and I think I was lucky to find the one I found. If you have a regular Dr. you go to, you may want to ask him/her if they do ob/gyn stuff...and if they don't, they will probably be able to recommend someone to you.

Good luck to both of you!!!

My midwife (CNM) can do almost ANYTHING an OB can do. I go to her for my yearly paps. She actually had more advanced testing equipment than my big shot downtown OB had LOL. I personally prefer to form a relationship with one health care provider and stick with them, they know you better, have all the records, and can treat you consistently. If you want a midwife birth I strongly urge you to see a midwife for all of your womanly needs. Midwifes are not just for pregnancies, they do mammograms, paps, etc etc, they offer a liftime of female care.

Good luck

Well I can answer your question and the one after you. If you got a BFP HPT then call your OB/GYN. Most of the time they won't do a urine preg test because the home ones are just as reliable. The usually won't do blood unless you are having probs or have a history of miscarriages. I would call your OB let them know that you are preg and go from there. Most of the time they will want to see you between 8-10 weeks preg. Now for the other question from one of the other posters... I would go to your OB/GYN for your annual paps. That is the only dr that I will let do my paps. Because if there is any chance that I have a bad one then I want to know my gyn dr. Plus I just feel more comfortable with my gyn. IMHO I wouldn't go to my primary for that. They don't truely know gyn. I have seen a lot in the office that I work in. Some primary's will put patients on some meds and it could be totally wrong for them. Just my opinion. Good luck!

I would say it depends on your insurance, b/c if you have to have a referral for pregnancy then you should go to your reg dr first, but otherwise, you can schedule an appt with your OB

Hope that helps!
