Does anyone know the symptoms of having low progesterone? My doctor mentioned getting it checked if I haven't conceived in a few months.

I beleive that ladies with low progesterone have alot of spotting- like a few days before AF and perhaps at other points in their cycle. Also your temps will be on the low side after "O"- progesterone is what gives you a temp rise so if it's low, temps will be low.

Tara's correct. Another symptom is a short Luteal Phase. If you chart, you should be able to identify this easily and take it to your doctor. A short luteal phase is 10 days or less. The verdict is out on actually when to count the days, but I think the most common practice is to count from the first day of temp rise to indicate O until the day AF starts.

If you have a short luteal phase, you shouldn't have to wait. It won't change with time. I have only been TTC for 5 months and my doctor brought me in for testing. She didn't test progesterone because my temps are nice and high, but she did test my thyroid and prolactin levels. Everything works in conjunction with each other. Since I only have a 10 day LP, I could have lower levels of proges caused by high prolactin caused by a thyroid problem. So you see, it all works together and won't change just because you wait.

I would try to pin point of the next 2 months honing in on your LP, call your doctor if it's 10 days or less, and get some tests done!

I hope that helps.

Thanks for the information. My MD suggested the test after I told her that I had C and stretchy CM after O. My LP has always been 13-14 days and my temps usually stay above 98 after O. My thyroid was checked 2 1/2 yrs ago and everything was normal, so I assume nothing has changed. I'm nearing the end of my 4th cycle and it took 8 months to conceive DD, so I guess I just take a long time to conceive.

Thanks,

Jen
