My purple cervix

Hi all,

I looked at my cervix again yesterday (cd 18) and it is still purple. It feels harder than it did around O, and more closed.

Is the cervix supposed to stay soft if you're pregnant?

Too early for me to test, I feel, as af is not due for another week...

I've heard that a soft, high cervix happens a little later in pg- after you would know. It's not a good indicator as even newly pg women can have a low/firm cervix. As for it being purple . . . I have no idea. Let us know! I'm sure if it's an early sign, we'll all be out buying speculums! lol

This is totally hearsay and I have never looked at my cervix and wouldn't know how, but someone that I work with recently had an incident that she thought was a miscarriage (it wasn't--she wasn't pregnant), but she had been to her doctor a month or so ago and he told her (or else she thought, I'm not sure which) that she hadn't been pregnant then because he would have been able to tell because her cervix would have been blue. Blue, purple--maybe the same color in different eyes. Had you looked at your cervix before and it was not purple, I guess? So maybe the color change does mean something.

I'll be curious to see. Be sure to let us know.

Yes your cervex turns blue or purpleish when pg. Its called chadwicks sign. I dont know how early it would change color but I would say if yours has, than thats a good sign. How in the world are able to see your own cervix? Good luck

Thanks Jen for the link

I bought a speculum recently which is how I've started observing my cervix. It's pretty fascinating. It's been purplish since I started - but then again maybe it's just deep red and it looks purple to me ... :)

Interesting. I would have done the same thing if I wouldn't have caught the egg that month.

Good Luck to you,

I remember this from nursing school!

What changes occur to the cervix during early pregnancy?

Dr. Abraham-Hebert: Many changes happen to the cervix during pregnancy. Early on, the cells on the outside of the cervix become hypertrophied or more prominent. During the first exam, very early in pregnancy, sometimes you can actually see a blue cervix, due to increased blood vessel changes.

Hope this is the reason for your purple cervix, let us know

I've read somewhere that a purple cervix is a sign of pregnancy because of the increased blood flow to it.I hope that this means you're pregnant!!!Good Luck!!
