I just came from the dr and my hormone levels were ok,I have not had a cycle for 3 months(got off bcp in april)so he gave me provera to get my cycle started, but he also told me to take bcp for 6 months why would he put me back on bcp when im ttc?can I just take the provera and not take the bcp?

Hey Anita,

i would say that's a little weird to me to.

i know Dr. normally want ladies to take BCP to help with there hormones, but you said your are fine so that makes no sense.

I will say take the povera to bring on AF dont take the BCP but asks your dr why would you take the BCP,

Did you tell your DR your TTC?

if I was you i''l just wait it out.

I agree with Imani. I don't know why the doctor would tell you to take BCP when you are ttc. Just to let you know you are not alone, I went off BCP last Dec. and have had no AF on my own. I recently went to the doc and she checked my hormones (OK) and gave me Provera. She also referred me to an RE to try to get me Oing again.

I think you should talk to your doc again and emphasize that you are ttc so you don't want BCP. Regulating your AF is not the issue, Oing is. If he can't help you, then ask for a referral to an RE or ob/gyn (if your doc is a general practitioner).

I have heard of Dr's doing this as a means to try to give your body a break in hopes that when you go off the bcp you will snap back into being regular again. You can do whatever you want. Never let a Dr dictate to you something that you don't feel comfortable with. Perhaps you'd like to just take the provera and see what happens? Give you body a couple of months to see if you get regular, then talk to Dr again later about the bcp thing.

GL to you!

Sounds like your Dr. prescribes to the theory that BCP can "kick-start" your body into a normal cycle again... but it sounds like a waste of 6 months to me. I'd consider getting a second opinion from another doctor.
