I'm completely confused, and am going to call my doctor later today, but wonder what you ladies think of this...

We've been TTC #2 for 13 months, my cycles are really irregular, so anything can happen. Right now I'm on CD 38 with no signs of AF, and no signs of being pregnant either. But, this is the longest cycle I've had in a long time, so I got a little excited last night and took a test. After the requisite three minutes, there was only one line, so I thought that was that. DH went into the bathroom about 30 minutes later and saw two lines - one very faint... I looked and saw the line too... Is it possible for the test to change to a positive with more time, or are we just wishful thinking?

Hopeful, Michelle C13 CD38.

Hi, Michelle,

I've never gotten one but I have heard that you can get "evaporation" lines after the alotted time limit, which is why it is not recommended to read the results after the given time. I think that some tests are more prone to do this than others, but I don't know which ones.

Now, I'm in no way suggesting that you are or are not pg. My recommendation would be to wait until tomorrow morning (or give it another day or two) and test with FMU.

GL, and I hope you get a definite bfp next time!

Michelle,

Hmmmmm...could be either way. Although they say a positive result should stay positive, I think a negative can change after some time.

I would definately wait until tomorrow morning and test with First Response Early, one of the best and most sensitive tests out there.

Good luck!

Try testing again tomorrow morning, and only read your result within the recommended time limit from your instructions. After that time limit, the test can do all sorts of strange things like form evaporation lines, etc. Just read your result and throw the sucker out.

Since you've been at this for 13 months now, and your cycles are irregular, have you considered seeing a doctor for a fertility workup? It might help for you!

Good luck!

You're right...a lines...a line...a line...

BUT

Only in the time frame given in the test. This is how you can be 99% assured it is true. Since you got the line after 33 minutes, I would suggest using FMU. And if it STILL comes up after 30 minutes, go get yourself a blood test girl!! If your doctors office won't do one (mine won't) go to a walk in clinic. They can get expensive though. Try calling your doctor first and see what they can/will do for you.

GL tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Tami. My doctor did a bunch of tests a couple months back and everything appearred to be normal then... and since this is #2, she is convinced that "it's just going to take a little longer." If we are still not after another 3 cycles, then we're going to have DH checked out. If AF doesn't show, I'll take another test over the weekend, and no matter what the results are, I'll get in to see the doc next week, becuase a 40+day cycle is just really weird for me. I agree with testing again in the morning, but the same thing happened to me once.

Heres whats happened to me, EPT tests were horrible to me! It was 2 days before AF was due and i took and EPT, after 13 minutes there was a second line! Faint but there. The box said to disregard the test after 20 minutes so i thought I MUST BE PREGNANT!

I went out and got a FRE test since they pick up less HCG, i took it the day AF was due and it was negative, I got another EPT and took it, it was negative up unttil 30 minutes, then i saw a faint line. I still have my two tests, the lines are still there.

I took an answer early and it was negative. Eventuallly AF came as usual with nothing out of the ordinary about her. EPT gives me problems with light control lines and i seem to always get a faint second line that appears before 20 minutes and stays there for month and months.

If you used EPT definatly get a different brand, if your using FRE just terst again in a couple of days, good luck!

Had that EXACT same experience with EPT about a year ago. Had two very faint positives with EPT and then dead on negatives with FRE taken at the same time. I'm having the same thing happen this go round now with the Clear Blue Easiest tests. I've taken two of those tests and had the faintest of faint positives only to have BFN's with FRE.

To be completely honest.......I'm starting to lose faith with HPT's in general......
