Okay to stop BCP mid-cycle?

Hello all,

I'm new to the world of TTC and am unsure whether it's okay to stop BCP mid-cycle. My husband and I are planning TTC in October and I was under the impression that you should get off of BCP right before you want to start conceiving. I see that some people take a while to get it out of their system and start cycling normally, so now I'm thinking that I should stop ASAP. Unfortunately I just started a new pack of BCP yesterday, so have taken the first pill so far. I see differing opinions online whether you should stop BCP mid-cycle or just finish it out. The main side effect I've read about is spotting, which I'm okay with but would like to hear others experiences about stopping mid-cycle.

Thanks!

Well, some reasons not to stop mid-cycle is it can mess up your cycle more by possible breakthrough bleeding (or dr's say if you did get pregnant right away it could be harder to date the pregnancy but that's what ultrasounds are for, right), etc. But if you've only taken 1 pill in the entire pill pack so far I wouldn't consider that mid-cycle by any means and I don't think it'd be any different stopping now than if you were to stop after the whole pack since it's just the one pill. It does take some longer than others after stopping the pill for their cycles to regulate. W/my first three pregnancies I went off the pill and ovulated 3 weeks later and was preggo. This time around though my cycles have been stranger and I feel like the bcp messed w/my luteal phase.

It's best to always finish the pack of BCPs. As the PP stated in the reasons not to, it can really screw up your cycle and it will already take a couple months to regulate it anyway. It's also easier to figure out when you ovulate and when AF is due by finishing. However, with only taking one, you probably would be able to stop.

thanks for your responses! I was kicking myself for not reading up on it a day earlier. I'm going to go ahead and stop and hope for the best.
