OPK problem

I keep getting negative test results from the OPK tests and I have been taking them for 2 months. So, I went to see a fertility doctor, convinced that I was not ovulating and I was - he tested my LH this week and it jumped and he even put me on the sonogram and showed me. Does anyone else have this problem with the OPKs? I am wondering if I am taking the OPKs wrong. I've tried first thing in morning and also in the early afternoon (but I can't hold it for more than 2 1/2 hrs). Any ideas?
By the way, my ovulation was on schedule according to the ovulation calendars, so that part worked.
Thanks for your input.

Are you getting any lines close to the control line?
Ugh! I know how you feel! I have never gotten a positive opk either! And I know I am O'ing because I got pregnant once and I can see the shift in my temps.
I also cannot hold it for 3 hours! That is impossible for me. I think that's why I don't get a positive anyway.
Do you Chart your Basal Body temps? If not, fertilityfriend.com offers a free service to chart your temps. At least you will know (after the fact) that you are O'ing and can draw some conclusions over time about when you might O.
