OPK question

If you get a line that is slightly lighter than the comparison line on an OPK, does that mean anything? I know it's negative, but does that mean that a good amount of hormone is present and you should keep testing, or does it mean NOTHING at all?
I'm asking because I'm pretty new to this, but last cycle I never got a positive result when I used the test five days in a row. Then my period (or some kind of dark brown light flow/spotting that lasted 5 days) came early (21 days after my last period started as opposed to the usual 29-30). Because my cycle this month is messed up it's hard to tell if I'm really in day 6 of a 21 day cycle or day 27 of a 29 day cycle.
So today I seemed to have EWCM so I used an OPK, and got a line that was very close to the comparison line. Should I keep testing because I'm close to O, or am I wasting my money on these kits? BTW, I know I'm not pregnant and I don't chart.

I don't think I answered your question, but I'm pretty sure that it means you at least have *some* LH in your system. Keep on testing and you should see them getting darker and darker the closer you get to O.
