Ok... I got REALLY curious about the opk's as hpts.. O mainly have one basic question....

(since I've never used one before...) Is there only supposed to be ONE line after O???

Has anyone ever taken these tests 5 or 6 days after O?? What was the result??

Hint: I didn't see only one line! and I know for SURE that I O'd midnight Sunday night!!

Here's my chart if you're interested in looking... and... PLEASE answer.... IS there supposed to be ANY line after O??? (I do have a history of implanting earlier than

others... my earliest being about 4dpo...)

Hi Jen,

I wish I could tell you that 2 lines means pg, but all these cycles when I haven't been pg, I have sometimes gotten 2 lines 5-6 days after O and sometimes not. It seems like it depends what time of day and how many dpo. But here's an idea that is just really a guess more than anything else. LH is produced during the morning (which is why you are not supposed to do OPKs with FMU). So, if you are trying to pick up HCG with these rather than LH, would it make sense to use the OPK strips with FMU to see if as you get toward 14 dpo the test line increases? So taking one and then another in a few days at the same time to see if the line gets darker might be a good thing? For me, by 5 or 6 dpo I still seem to have some LH in my system, so I'd get a test line (though not a positive). Last cycle, I got 2 lines at maybe 8 dpo, and then at 9 dpo only one line, and then AF showed at 10 dpo. Thus, a second line at 8 dpo didn't indicate pregnancy for me.

But I hope it does for you--or that whatever the line means, you'll get that BFP.

Good luck!

I graduated in September, but I've posted and re-reposted a link to a post from ovusoft.com boards that explains how OPKs can be used to detect pregnancy. It worked like a charm for me at 9 dpo (I got a BFP two days later).

You must have a positive OPK, that is, a line as dark or darker than the control, to be considered positive. Otherwise, the stick is picking up the random amounts of LH you would have in your system at any point in your cycle. Because LH and hcg are similar protein chains (the beta chain during pregnancy makes the difference) the OPK will pick up hcg, but an HPT (that tests only for that specific beta chain) will not pick up LH.

Make sense?

GL!

Jen, you always have at least some LH in your system, so it is possible to get a faint result on an OPK anytime, including post O. Ideally, what you're looking for is as dark of a line as what you get when you consider an OPK to be positive. But that doesn't necessarily mean a faint line means anything bad, either. The month I got pg I tried the OPK as HPT thing, and it didn't work for me, or at least it hadn't worked by 10 dpo when I ran out of OPKs. I'd keep taking them and see if they get darker, that could definitely be a good sign. Good luck!

Ok.. You said it worked for you at 9dpo... Did you use fmu?? or afternoon? evening??

And.. did you only do one?.. See... I did two.. the first one.. in the evening.. with concentrated urine.. and it was a faint line... the second one I did the next day.. several hours earlier in the day... with NON-diluted urine.. and it was just the slightest tad bit darker.. ..

Would it work better to try it in the am w/fmu??

Thanks for answering!

Yeah, I used FMU. I was too chicken to try an HPT (well, I was only 9 dpo) and I had some of those generic OPK strips (ordered online) that I did not want to use in my next cycle, so I figured I'd just try it as an HPT. The line I got was darker than my +OPK before O! That was my clue.

Ok... I tried fmu today.. and the test line is DEFINITELY darker than the other two I took.. BUT.. it's not dark.. it's about 1/3 as dark as the control line now. With the other things I've been experiencing in the last day or so.. along with the af-like cramps I've had (and am still having).. I'm getting this excited jumpy feeling inside..

Thanks for listening to me ramble.. AND for answering my questions!

=)
