ovulation after birth control

Hi everyone

I am a newbie here. I have been married for 5 years, and have been on bcp those years. We decided this year to start trying for a baby. I decided to join this board since I know absolutely nothing about charting and all, and there is a wealth of information on this board, which I have been perusing carefully.

I had a question on ovulation and was wondering whether you could help me. I went off birth control in August and missed my first period after that. The next two cycles have been regular and came on time. However, I am not sure whether I am ovulating.

So, I apologize if this is TMI, but I am trying to predict ovulation by looking at the cervical mucous left on my underwear. I haven't bought the thermometer yet, will order that soon. I can't always tell whether the mucous is thick or thin. I do see something there.. Is there something I am missing? How am I supposed to tell this way? Is this a reliable way to tell?

Thanks in advance for your responses. I hope to be ready to TTC early next year!

Have you tried buying an ovulation kit? They vary in price (the digital being more $$, but I preferred the digital). Any drugstore carries them. The test

Since my cycles are very irregular and I have ovulated any time between 19 and 42 days, I use a basal thermometer. It is pretty easy and accurately lets me know when I ovulated. Of course, it doesn't help tell you until AFTER you ovulate. Checking cm is good for determining when you are most likely to be fertile, but won't tell you whether you ovulated or not.

The best way to tell if/when you are actually ovulating is by temping.

In order to interpret your CM, you are probably going to have to touch it and try to stretch it between your fingers to determine whether it is slippery or sticky or stretchy.
