If I was due to ovulate on the 2nd of August but my hubbie and I did the deed on the 3rd had we lost our chances, or do you have the day before and after. Sorry I just don’t have any idea how long you have to conceive every month. Also how soon after you hope to conceive can you test with an over the counter test?

I've never tried an OPK, so I don't know much about them. As far as ovulation, they say the egg only lives 12-24 hours. I've heard it recommended that you BD daily or at least every other day prior to O and just after as well. Also factor in that sperm can live 3-5 days, so that makes you a fertile more days in the month than just 1. HTH

In general, it's best to BD on the days up to and including ovulation. In *most* cases, the day after is too late... but that's not a sure thing. You could still feasibly get PG on the day after O, assuming you ovulated late on O day and the egg is still alive the next day (it only "lives" 12-24 hours).

Depending on a lot of factors - the quality of your cervical fluid, etc. - your fertile phase could last up to about 5 days. Have you considered charting your temps and your cervical fluid? This is a great way to get an idea of when you have your fertile phase, and how long it is. Some resources for this: the free website at www.fertilityfriend.com, and the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. You will need to buy a BBT or Basal Body Temperature thermometer for this; a regular fever thermometer won't do.

After conception, the egg takes about 6-8 days to implant. One it implants, it starts "communicating" with your body and excreting HCG into your system. It can take several days beyond that for enough HCG to be in your system to cause a positive result on an HPT. The "early" HPTs say you can test as early as four days before AF is due; however, their accuracy at that timeframe is very poor. For a more reliable HPT result, try testing on the day AF is due, or several days after. (I know it's hard to wait, but trust me, all the BFNs leading up to it are painful!)

I hope I answered some of your questions, and I'm sorry to have written a book. Good luck to you!
