Ovulation Predictor??

Hello! I have been on and off of these boards since 2008 when I was prego with my first daughter.  Its always been a great place for me to get advice and support, so I thought it was the best place to bring this question.

Very recently DH and I decided to go for #3. All of the practical reasons aren't there, but we keep coming back to the question so we decided to give it a go! I have been using the P Tracker app on my phone for about a year now just to know when my period was coming.  According to the app, today is the day I should be ovulating.  We DTD Thursday and Saturday.  I got a pack of O tests and those aren't reading positive today (or yesterday).

We have two daughters and we were hoping for a boy, although happy and healthy is our #1 priority! All that I've read says to have sex THE DAY you are ovulating to help your odds. What is the best way to know? The app, I thought would help because it tracks my specific cycle and changes accordingly.  I might need to invest in some more expensive O tests, I just got those little strips.

That stinks about your UTI :( I think as long as you are DTD around the time you think you are ovulating, you should be fine. A lot of members like to test several times a day. You don't want to miss it!

Hi Melissa! Thanks for the response! I think my cycles are on average about 25/26 days apart. It varys, which is part of the reason I started to use that app a long time ago. This is our first month back on the horse so to speak LOL So we'll have to get into a rythym.

Not being sure we DTD 12/5, 12/7, and 12/9.  My app had said I was ovulating on the 9th, but like I said the opk was out of whack. I actually tested a few different times a day. I did get a positive in the morning on Sunday I think it was but then I read that I shoudln't have been taking it in the morning. I'm pretty sure I need the more straight forward smiley or no smiley.

And lucky me I've been battling an UTI the past few days :( the symptoms started Monday but I DTD anyway because I was afraid to waste the day!

What time of day are you testing?  Most of the tests want you to do it in the afternoon so it will catch the rising LH.  It could be that you just missed, since a positive ovulation test means that you will ovulate within 12-36 hours.  At least you have good timing with when you DTD.   If you want to a cheaper method, you could try tracking your Basal Body Temperature along with using the OPKs.  How long are your cycles normally and when was the first day of your last menstrual period?
