ovulation predictor help

AF arrived on Thursday (four days late), so I'm out, but I'm going hard-core on this for the month of October. I am really hoping I can do this this month for various reasons. Anyway, I am temping and ordered some pregnancy tests and ovulation tests online. Can someone who has used the O tests help me out? I thought it worked where you'd pee on it in the morning, but I read something about putting your sample in a cup in the fridge for a half hour first and not to use FMU. ??? Can anyone provide some insight?

Hi lilargie,

I am using OPKs from early-pregnancy-tests.com and the directions on mine do not say anything about letting the urine sit or refrigeration (?). Just to not use FMU, collect between 10am - 8pm, test the same time each day and to reduce liquid intake 2 hours before testing. (I am using the kind where you collect urine in a cup). This is my first month using them and so far so good. The line has gradually gotten darker all week and I got positive test this afternoon!

Hi Brandy. Yes, those are the ones I'm bought, I didn't get them yet, but I should by the beginning of the week. I'm on CD2 now, so I'll be fine. I looked at the directions quickly online and I know it said don't use FMU and I think it said test between 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. So should I just start on CD10 (I think thats what it says) and when I start to get a line, what does that mean, that ovulation is coming up?? And when its a dark line it means O is happening now or has happened? Just do it once a day?

I am still pretty new at the OPK thing, but theoretically your LH level should slowly be increasing until it peaks and that's when ovulation is about to occur (darker each day until it is either as dark or darker than the control line). I do not believe a positive OPK means you have already ovulated, but rather that is eminent. So these tests give you a heads up that its time to get DH home for some BDing!

I think some people test several times a day but I chose to do just once a day at roughly the same time. I drink a ton of water so reducing liquids for two hours is something I would be miserable doing more than once a day :)

My O date has been kind of all over the place, so I started them on CD10 as well and got a positive on CD15. I use iVillage Fertility Planner and when I entered my positive OPK it said that ovulation should take place within 12-36 hours. I wish my DH would have been in town the day before I got the positive OPK so we could have BD'd then, but hopefully BD'ing the day of the positive OPK and day after will be enough!

Good Luck!
Brandy

So are faint positives on the OPKs considered positive and it just continues to get darker each day and then nothing? But all days, even faint, are considered positive??

i dont know about the fridge. but i know that i have had luck using pee from 4 -10 pm. really, the later the better. but everyone is different!! i onlyt figured out when to test by testing 2-3 times a day!!!! i got 20 cheap stick tests per cycle.

i dont really rely on OPKs much, and didnt even bother with them this cycle (yet - i am a POAS addict)

my tip is to not waste your tests - wait until you have EWCM before you test, esply if you have a number of EW days in your cycle. i have ew for 4 days! but if you are not sure about Cm, then by all means, test earlier.

Hi lilargie,

A line is considered negative until it is either as dark or darker than the control line. A faint line is a negative.

Hope that helps!

So when does the positive line (as dark as control) come ... is it right before ovulation or is it after?

The positive result comes right before ovulation (about 6-24 hours).
