...not sure what anything is right now. I am confused about the whole charting thing and people calling things what I know different names or referring to different things. I thought I had it all under control!!!LOL!

What I mean is...what is the difference between CM And CF. I keep reading just about CM, it needing to be "egg white" consistency to help to sperm "swim". But is CF the same? And how long does CM last.....Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Who knew that TTC involves having to learn a whole new language?! :) Anyway, CM and CF are the same thing. Technically the stuff is called cervical mucus, however, since that term grosses a lot of people out, many people call it cervical fluid. As for how long it lasts, well, that depends. Some people actually never have egg white consistency CM. Others have several days of it. I usually have about 3 days of it. The bottom line is that the wetter, slippery-er and stretchier it is, the more fertile it is. If you've got it, use it! ;) GL!

Have to agree w/Anne on this, here is a link to understand your CM. BTW I don't think I ever have EWCM and I have been trying to figure it out for 15 months. All I know is the creamy is hostile and I have that!!!

Oh...Thank you. I never thought I had to learn so much of this just to happy a little one. I already have #1, but ttc#2. #1 was a surprise and I didn't think #2 would be so difficult.

I'm not grossed out by any of the terminology...I just want to know what will help. Thanks again. I love this board.

CM = cervical mucus, while CF is cervical fluid... the difference? Purely semantic - they're the same thing.

In revised editions of "Taking Charge of Your Fertility," the terminology has begun switching to "cervical fluid," which is a little more PC a term and has a better connotation to it. I believe the comparison was "would a man like his seminal fluid being called 'seminal mucus' - I think not."

Every woman has a different number of days of fertile CF each cycle. As you chart, you'll probably start to notice your regular # of fertile CF days.

My best resource for interpreting CF is the TCOYF book - it's got a color photo section of all the different variations of the types of CF - "dry," "sticky," "creamy," and "eggwhite." It cleared up a ton of confusion for me!
