Progesterone - oral vs suppository

For those on progesterone, or for those who know a lot about it, is there a difference in side effects, risks, etc. when comparing the oral vs. suppository supplements? I am currently prescribed the oral (Aygestin) to take on CD 16-25. And no, I STILL haven't started it yet because last month I was on vaca, and this month DH was gone, so I thought what's the point? I guess I'll start next cycle...but some of you who know me know that I hate taking new things because I obsess over side effects and risks. I mean, the dumb info included in the meds say do not take while pregnant or breastfeeding, and then there's all the risks associated with the meds (blood clots, stroke, etc.) Oh, and the kicker of it all is that it can be used as BIRTH CONTROL by preventing O!! I guess since I take it later in the cycle, that makes a difference??? I don't technically have low progesterone, just the lower end of normal (11.4 at 7 dpo), and with the days of brown spotting I get before AF arrives, my doc suggested I give it a try. I have voiced my concerns about this before, so sorry if some of you have heard this, but I am nervous to take it. I still have a couple of weeks until I should start it. In the mean time, I have my yearly pap scheduled, but looks like AF will force me to reschedule. I plan to ask all of these things whenever I go in. However, any insight from you would be great!

I do the prometrium suppositories. My obgyn gave me the choice of oral or suppository--he said the side effects are the same, but the chance of experiencing the side effects are much less when taking it the supp route. So since one of the side effects can be nausea & I have a very weak/sensitive stomach I chose to go the supp route and have had no side effects at all.

Thanks for the responses!

Do y'all know if the suppository has the same warnings about TTC and pregnancy? Or if it can prevent O?

My dr. said it wouldn't prevent O (even if I took it before I for sure knew I had ovulated), but I don't know if it says anything about O on the label though. My obgyn specifically told me that the label would say a warning on it about ttc/pregnancy, but not to worry about it at all.

Ah, okay. That makes me feel a little better. I think AF will be outta here before my appt. next week, so I can ask my doc, too. I am pretty determined to take it this go round though...I want a Turkey Baby! ;)
