Prometrium?

I've been having weird spotting and went to the doctor today who thinks that with all the stress of a new house, etc., etc., I haven't been ovulating and prescribed prometrium to try to get my periods on track. Has anyone used it? I'm curious to know what to expect.

Prometrium is a highly micronized form of progesterone which absorbs into your bloodstream quickly. My main advice is DO NOT take your Prometrium with food. When taken too close to a meal, the Prometrium absorbs even more quickly into your bloodstream since it has the help of all that food... and then your side effects will be VERY exaggerated. Probably the best time to take your pills will be in the evenings immediately before you go to bed. Main side effects to look out for are dizziness - I couldn't even walk in a straight line the first day, when I took my pill one hour after lunch - and mild nausea.
After your last pill, you should get your AF any time from 2 days to 2 weeks later. The Prometrium will bring on a "bleed" for you, but it won't make you ovulate. Some doctors prescribe Prometrium in your situation in the hopes of "kick-starting" your system. Will you be charting your next cycle to know if you for sure ovulated?
Good luck to you!

So I wonder now about my spotting -- whether it will continue until AF arrives or not. Also, how long did the dizziness last? If you took it before bed, was it gone by morning?
