A question about annovulatory cycles...
| Sat, 02-28-2009 - 7:47pm |
I was wondering:
Is it possible to not ovulate and still have a period? Does this usually happen once in awhile or can it happen all the time?
I'm also just learning that OPKs can give you a positive reading, even if you don't ovulate. Would one assume that this happens once in a blue moon, or is it possible to never ovulate but have no idea because you have a period on a regular basis?
This is my first month charting, and while its still a little early for ovulation to be detected, my temps seem a little erratic and I'm concerned. Aside from temping, how can one truly be sure they are ovulating??

Thanks for the response!
I tried to post this a few mins ago but I don't think it worked, so I'll try again. Here is

Hopefully that link works. If it did, you can see that my temps are kind of all over the place. When I first started temping, I was on vacation from work and my waking time was inconsistent. Now I'm back to work and can temp at the same time daily, except for today (the 28th). I'm wondering if I should just temp on the weekdays only.

Thanks for trying...can you give me instructions on how to post the link to my own chart? I don't want make it a siggy, but I'd like to know how to do it for reasons like this.
I'm a little computer-challenged! LOL.
Thanks.
I might have figured it out! Does this work?

Hello and welcome!
First of all, yes, you can have a period and not ovulate. Are your periods very regular or not? If they come very regularly chances are you are Oing. However, the only way to know for sure is by temping.
I looked at your chart and the reason I think it is so erratic is because of your open circles, taking your temp inconsistently and not at the same time each day. I take my temp at 6am and then on the weekends I temp and just go to sleep again. You're also looking for the big picture, you'll start to notice a range. Like I say if my temps aren't consistently over 98 for the most part I haven't Oed. Your looking for temps that go up and stay in the upper range until af or bfp. I hope this helps. Also, some women get fertile cervical mucus like egg whites. If you check your cm each day that can help determine when you may be close to Oing.
Take care and let us know if you have more questions.

Thanks so much. Glad I finally posted the right link!
I think that from now on I'm going to wake up at 6am to temp no matter what, or just not temp on the weekends. During the week I've been getting more normal temps, except that one day were I had literally no sleep.
Thanks!
