For anyone who is taking/took clomid, I was just wondering at what point and why you chose to use it? My sister took it when she was doing ivf, but that's a little different than trying the old fashion way.

Hi Marcella, Clomid supports ovulation and lengthens the luteal phase.

I am amidst my first month of Clomid (50 mg, 5-9)and am 1DPO. I decided to take Clomid after ttc for 8 months and only Oing maybe 2X during that period. After I stopped BCP, my cycles were crazy and it was obvious that i was not Oing-- I was charting.

My OB/GYN (who is also a fert. specialist)gave me two options-- to take 3 months of Provera to hopefully kick my body into an ouvlatory cyle, or get started on the lowest dose of Clomid. I decided to cut to the chace and go for the Clomid, since I knew I wasn't Ovulating.

Keep in mind that you do need blood tests to check hormone levels and thyroid prior to treatment, and many dr.'s require monitoring either through additional tests or at least with a fertility monitor to make sure it is working (I used the fm and was thrilled to see I Oed!) Clomid also has unpleasant side effects-- hot flashes, major moodiness, and bloating to name a few-- but I really did not find them that bad. it helps if you take it at night.

I hope this helps. People take it for many different reasons, and mine is just one-- hopefully it will be a sucessful month!

GL and feel free to ask more questions-- the ladies are so helpful here!

I was just wondering about it, since it seems like a lot of people were taking it. My sister had lots of side effects and claimed to feel her ovaries throb etc. didn;t sound fun. Anyway, thanks for the info. I hope things work better for you and ovulation becomes more regular!
