Question about OPK and m/c

Does anyone know if OPK's work right after a m/c? I've just recently had an early m/c. I'm not sure exactly when, but I started bleeding on 8/29 and stopped bleeding on 9/2. I had a beta test done on 9/3 with low results and another one done 9/5 with even lower results. I would have been between 5 and 6 weeks pregnant. The nurse I talked to said that I had already m/c but still had some hcg and progesterone still in my system, which they want me to test for again next week to be sure it's gone. Anyway, I don't know whether we are going to try again this month or not, but I would like to know if and when I am ovulating. Does anyone know if the OPK will work correctly after m/c?

Thanks,

Susan

I am sorry about your miscarriage..I also had one at almost 12 weeks...what I can tell you is it is best to start with your normal routine of ttc after you have had your first regular period after the miscarriage...this way the hcg and excess hormones are gone, your body has had time to get back to its pattern...and you can get more accurate results..hope your mind heals soon..and your heart

Hi Susan. I'm so sorry you are in this season. I had a miscarriage in July. I started bleeding on July 3 and bled through August 1. I was like 10 weeks along. Years ago I had a miscarriage and bled 30 days with it too....did they tell you that you've had a complete miscarriage? Did you have a lot of bleeding and cramping? Apparently you did have a complete, or they would have suggested a d and c. And just like you, I had to go back and test until the hormone counts were back to normal. I would get a positive hpt for weeks after the miscarriage. So, it may take a couple weeks, but, my doctor also said that once I had a regular period there was no reason not to continue ttc. This is the first month since that we've been able to predict ovulation with opk's....I tried last month although I knew my cycle was temporarily irregular. I even got a positive, but I had picked up the lh in the period that came three days later. I didn't know there was lh hormone released at the time of menstruation, but there is. I think some women trying to use opk's to detect pregnancy get thrown by that. Not that the opk's won't predict pregnancy too.. bottom line, they pick up on the lh hormone whether it's for impending ovulation, pregnancy or menstruation.... anyways...once I had one regular period, I started using opk's again and things seem to be back to normal. However, if you can pinpoint ovulation this month, you probably could conceive. I also understand that a few weeks of waiting can seem like forever and how you want to be pregnant again NOW at this moment and no later! I've obsessed terribly. But...it's ok. Your hormones are all wacky and it's a sad, disappointing time. Be gentle with yourself. Be understanding with yourself. Amanda

Thanks for all the help. I don't know if I had a complete m/c or not. How do you know? I never saw a doctor. I just went and got a hcg test and then another 48 hours later and the hcg level was decreasing. The nurse said I must have had a m/c and just wants me to come in next week to make sure my progesterone and hcg levels are gone. How do you know if it's a complete m/c?
