Question about taking soy?

Hello Ladies,

I saw from the posts that some of you have had success shortening long cycles by taking soy isoflavones. I am interested in taking them this cycle and was wondering which cycle days you took them and how many mg's. I understand that you only take the soy for 5 days at the beginning of your cycle, but I have found a lot of discrepancy as to which days. Also, some recommend taking 80mg the first month and then increasing to 120mg or even 150mg, while others simply start taking 150mg the first cycle.

I am currently on CD2, so I guess I should start taking them soon :) Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kris

From what I have learned, you can take them cd3-7, 4-8 or 5-9 being the latest. However, I learned about them on cd6, and started then (so, cd6-10). I

Most reccommend taking them as clomid would be taken, five day s in a row in the beginning of the cycle, for example cd 1-5,

Hi emnaj,

Thanks for the info! Any thoughts on which cycle day is best to start with soy? I see that you started on CD6 and O'd on CD12, so I am wondering if starting soy on CD3 or 4 will make O come too early.

Yeah for a clearly positive OPK!!!!!! I hope you caught that eggie and get a BFP for Christmas... the best present of all.

Hello Moonlitlove,

Thank you for the information on dosages and the forum. I will definitely check it out! I was unaware that soy can actually delay O in some women (I don't want that). I guess that I should do some more reading before I decide how to proceed.

Sorry to hear that your cycle is messed up this month :( I can certainly relate since last month had a normal length cycle but no O at all!!! It gets very frustrating... temping and using OPK's and then nothing. My two previous cycles I O'd late CD21 and CD23, so I am hoping the soy might help.

Thanks again! Good luck & baby dust to you

From my experience...and I only have this cycle to go off of, I would say to start it at either cd 5 or 6...I have also wondered if the reason that soy can delay o in some women is because of the dosage. Maybe taking more than say...80mg/day will delay O. Like some of the women I have heard take like 160mg and they still O around the same time or even later than normal....I don't really know for sure...this is just my opinion.

Whatever you choose to do, good luck with it!! And I hope we all get what we want for Christmas!!...a BFP!!!

Well I didnt hear about soy until my CD6, this cycle, so I took mine CD7-12. I just got off BCP in July and my 2nd cycle I didnt O until CD 35, then last cycle CD29, so I was really looking to move that up. So after taking 155mg CD7-12, I'm pretty sure I O'd on CD22. Which, this could be because my cycles are slowly shortening each additional cycle I've been off BCP. Some people say taking it earlier (CD1-5) makes you O earlier and then taking it later (CD5-9) makes you have a stronger O. I'm not sure I had a stronger O even though I took it later. Either way, I think soy helped somewhat. It doesnt really hurt to try, so good luck!

I have decided that I will start taking 80mg (rather than starting with a higher dosage) of soy on cd5. I have read as much as I can find online and feel it is worth the risk that it might cause me to O late (hopefully not). Last cycle, I did not O (based on temps and OPKs), and previous two months were late (cd21 & 23). Hoping and praying that this will work!

Thanks so much for your help and best of luck to you!

I hope that we get BFP's for Christmas too!
Best wishes

Hi ljoigschlaeger,

Thanks for your sharing your experience. I have read the same... that taking it earlier in your cycle makes O come earlier, while taking it from day 5 (or later) improves the quality of the egg. I have searched for any medical research regarding the use of soy, but have not found anything definitive.

I feel the same as you... it can't really hurt to try. : )
