Hi Girls~

I've been recently diagnosed with anxiety due to my shortness of breath. I've had a full pulmonary and cardiology workup done and everything looks fine (I'm happy about that). The only problem is, the Dr. prescribed me xanex and when I filled the rx it has warniong labels all over it that say s not for use during pregnancy, trying to get pregnant, or breastfeeding. I'm going to call my Dr on Monday to ask for a substitute but thought I'd ask you girls if there was any meds you know about or take for anxiety that won't affect TTC. Thanks for any advice.

I was just diagnosed with anxiety and panic attacks, but I was prescribed Zoloft, and although the label says not to use while pregnant, ttc, or breastfeeding, the doctor says it's actually fine, it just may make the baby relaxed/sleepy so that if you are pregnant you should stop taking it shortly before your due date

I was just changed from Xanax and Celexa to Paxil, and the doctor told me I would have to quit them within the first four weeks at the longest. So, I am not sure about Zoloft, but I did ask them to put me on something I could stay for the duration of the pg, but there is nothing currently available.

i struggle with depression and anxiety. i have switched from serzone (antidepressant) to paxil cr (12.5 mg) due to TTC. my psych. and OBGYN have told me that paxil, zoloft and prozac are safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. i also have done personal research and found this to be true for women who NEED to continue their medications-- staying on meds, if you need to, outweighs the risks to the baby-- now benzos such as xanax, kolonopin and valium ARE NOT recommended to take during pregnancy. but the antidepressants i mentioned above have been used to treat both depressive symptoms and anxiiety-- especially the paxil.

Hi Stephanie,

I talked to a specialist about this same thing, recently. What I found out is that the reason xanax is not recommended during pregnancy is because if you develop a tolerance (or physical dependancy) so could your baby and be born having to wean. Not a great way to spend your first few days in this world. However, studies have shown that the xanax does not affect the developing baby. My recommendation for you is to be very careful with it. It is very addictive and it is very easy for some people to become physically addicted. I did a year ago after taking very small doses for less than 6 weeks and I am still slowly getting off of it.

Sorry for the book.
