Question for Ladies Recently off BC...

Hi girls. Last month I came off BC (the patch). AF showed up 16th of July. Had what seemed like a normal cycle (except for all the PG symptoms I was convincing myself that I had) and then AF showed up 27 days (13dpo) later on 12th of August. She was very very bright red and brown. And also very light. Started Tuesday morning and ended yesterday (Thursday) morning. Was wondering if this is normal? Has anyone else experienced something like this? Thanks for all the help... :)

I have had very weird cycles since coming off the patch. First of all on the patch my cycles were 23 days...ugh. Then my first cycle off it was 35 days with a normal period. Then this cycle was 30 days and my af has been very light ...not normal for me. Anyway I guess what I am saying is that it may take a few months to get back to normal. I know when I was on the patch it made me sick and irritable all of the time. I never had that problem on the pill. So next time I go on bc it will be the pill. Anyway my 2 cents and a lot more. LEt me know if there is anything else you need!

Hi! My first real cycle coming off the BCP was similar. It was 5 days late, started off brown and really lite, then progressed to what I would call normal for a day or two. Then it dissappeared. I too had all of the pg signs, and had myself convinced, but then AF reared her ugly head for the next cycle. I think that it just takes some time for your body to adjust. The BC had told it what to do for so long, then when you go off of it, your body gets confused. Hope that this helps!

Good luck and good vibes!

I hear it takes at least three months to get back to "normal" but here's my experience.

I quit BC (nuva ring) at the end of may. My cycles were 28 day while on it and stayed 28 days after it. Everything was completely normal for the first two cycles although AF was a little heavier than usual. The third cycle, I had mid-cycle light AF-like bleeding for two days as well as spotting for several days before it. I thought that would have messed up my 28 day cycle but it didn't. Right on day 28, AF showed up like normal, although so far it's lighter than it has been in the past, but still normal with all other AF symptoms.

(hmmm... these 28-day cycles are making me wonder if DH is chickening out and slipping me BCPs while I'm not looking! 8-O)

Thanks for all the input ladies. Strangest things are happening with my body. Like I said before, AF stopped yesterday morning, and now she's back. What's up with that? Talk about confusing...

I stopped the pill mid-July and I've been having wierd side effects also. I've had cramps off and on for the whole month and am occasionally fooled into thinking I'm pregnant. My period should show up on Monday but I know it won't! I generally don't have periods for up to a year without the stupid pills! Instead, I am waiting for 3 months to pass so I can take progesterone. All these side effects make me wonder if I ever want to go back on birth control again! Luckily, my dh has agreed to the big "V" when we are done!

Stacie,

I agree, it may take longer for your cycles to be normal. You were talking about how the patch affected you, well, that's what the pill did to me! I don't know if I was irratible so much as my emotions seems magnified. Like if I was sad, I was REALLY sad, or whatever. And I felt sick all the time. Now that I'm off the pill I feel GREAT!! In a few months, if we don't get pg, I'm going to have to start using something again but I don't like any BC methods! Maybe we'll just do the pull and pray, lol. I just don't ever want to feel sick again like I did with the pill!!

Ashley,

I too just recently went off bcp after my period the end of June. I haven't started them back up again on the odd chance I was pregnant. I was 1.5 weeks late and it only lasted for 2 days. I asked my dr. and pharmacist and they both told me this was very normal and it takes your body at least a couple of months to get back on track and have regular cycles again. As for pregnancy symptoms, I have most of them including tiredness, tender boobs, bloating, cramps and sickness, but I am not pregnant. But that's just my situation. Prayers for a bfp!!

tasha, thanks for your email. It made me feel much better about my second month off the pill where my period is super light. I've been worried I'll never be able to get pregnant. Thanks. d
