Question on OPK's and O'ing.....

Ok, I have been trying to conceive for 11 months now, with one successful coneption ending in a very early miscarriage in August. I have used OPK's since May, and in May, Jun, and July, I got clear readings of positive's using Answer brand and First Response brand and the positives correlated with my charts, mucous and cramps, high and soft cervix, etc. Well, last month, I used another Answer brand and never really got a clear positive, but had the temp. shift, and mucous, so I still think I o'd, but had a yeast infection around that time, so didn't get to try much. Now this month, I decided to spend more money and try the Clearblue/clearplan easy kit which has 7 sticks, but it's 27 dollars. My sil swears by it. Well, I started testing on day 10, and that day I tested in the afternoon after holding my urine for quite a while, and the line looks almost as dark as the control line, but it's a lot thinner. I don't know why, I've never seen that on any other brand and don't know if the width of it even matters. Ok, so I have tested everyday since and a couple of days I've done first morning urine and also tested in the pm, but have never gotten a positive. Some of the lines are very light and some of the others are medium, but none I would classify as positive. I am on CD 13, my temp has dropped this morning, and I am getting the EW mucous, cramping, and my cp is high and soft and feels a litte open, so I think I will o in the next day or two. I usually get a strong positive by now, but only a slight line with fmu this morning. I'm sorry this is so long, but I guess my question is, should I just go by my chart and other symptoms of o, and maybe try to test again in the pm? Is it possible that I'm not even o'ing since I'm not getting clear positives on opk's, even though all the other signs are there and I get a definite temp rise??? I only have 3 tests left, so I want to make them last in case I'm not o'ing yet, but I have very regular cycles and usually o by day 14, sometimes, days 12,13. Please give me some advice. I thought maybe I did o earlier this week because of the opk looking almost positive with afternoon urine, but no other signs were there. I hope this makes sense, and thanks in advance for anyone who can shed some light. Best of luck to everyone!!! Tressa

momtohannah...

i too have had problems with clearplan blue easy. the lines are never the same width, but the blue on teh left hand side of the test line is darker than the control line. i really like the readability of the answer brand, but my r/e swears by the stinking clearplan blue easy. i guess just try and bd as much as you can from CD10-20. it is hard to figure out. last month with a meijer brand i detected the lh surge, but my cd4 ultrasound indicated that i never even released an egg. good luck and keep us posted. i am on cd11 now waiting to detect that surge again. if i don't detect it by cd16, i am going in to get a trigger shot.

I never get the test line as dark as the ref line but I know

that its a positive by it just showing up where I can see it.

I also temp, check cp and cm. When I'm not Oing there is no line at all or very faint. I've also heard that you really shouldn't use FMU beacause your body needs to

build up the LH throughout the day. I think it says between

2pm - 8pm are the best times to test.

Good Luck.

All the other answers are very thorough so all I would add is that from what I've heard, you should not use your fmu and to test at the same time in the afternoon - that is ideal. Based on all your other info. it does sound like you're going to o soon so bd today (the day you got the positive) and for the next 2 days as well. Also you mentioned your cm...I'd say whenever you've got some good ewcm at all - to bd it up regardless of if the opk doesn't "agree"...ewcm is always a good sign so I'd bd on those days too! Good luck!!!!!!!! I did opks this month too so I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us that it will works out :-)

Thanks girls!!! Now that I look back on my test from this morning, it looks pretty positive, and although they say to read it at 3 minutes, it's the darkest I've had all week and this is the day I usually get a surge, so I will bd tonight and the rest of the weekend. I am crossing my fingers for all of us!! Let's see some BFP's!!!!!

I also never got a + OPK using the Clearblue, but I was using FMU and didn't know not to. But I BD'd CD 8, 10, 12, and 16 and am now pg, so I'm pretty sure I O'd even though Clearblue never told me I did!.

All the other answers are pretty thorough, Jut thought I would let you know the same thing happened to me, with good results!
