Question regarding progesterone levels

What are normal progesterone levels for pregnant and non pregnant women? I've recently had a m/c and when I got the results of my blood test I not only had low HcG levels, but my progesterone was 0.8. I didn't think much of it at the time, but now I'm wondering if the progesterone might have been the cause of the m/c. Does anyone know what progesterone levels should be prior ovulation, post ovulation, and during pregnancy? Should levels ever be zero like mine were? Should I be concerned about this while trying to conceive or was this just a fluke and they were so low because of the m/c? I've been pregnant before with my son and they didn't even mention progesterone levels to me. Also, will temp charting help me to see that my progesterone is at a good level?

Thanks so much,

Susan

Here is a link of levels for you: http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/hormonelevels.html

Pre"o" should be about 1-2, 7DPO levels should be 10-15 and pg levels 15+

Thanks so much for that site. So do you think 0.8 seems normal at cd7? Is there anyway to test it at home so if I do get pregnant I can make an appointment with my doctor right away if it's low? Or, do I just have to wait it out and hope for the best?

Thanks,

Susan

I would say that is pretty normal for pre"o" levels. It's the 7DPO level they like to check- that is the important one that determines if you are going to need suppliments to hold a pg. You can't check it at home- it's usually something that the Dr will check out when they do a pg blood test- they'll do a prog test at the same time. You could always call and ask for a 7DPO test to ease your mind- make sure everything is okay.

GL to you!

I am so very sorry for your loss. I actually think low progesterone is the cause of a lot of m/c. I think that because I know of women that have recurrent ones and the dr. do a ton of tests and everything comes back fine and their progesterone was not monitored. I have PCOS so when I got PG I was watched closely. At 5wk the progesterone was 28.9 then 6wk 17.9 and then I requested the 3rd time at 7 wk and it was at 9. I know the progesterone flucuates but mine kept dropping. I was put on progesterone immediately. A lot of dr. don't retest the levels once they are good numbers. I have come to the conclusion that anyone I knwo that gets pregnant I tell them to please have their dr. test their progesterone every week if need be. I again am so sorry. {{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}

A normal level for pregnancy is 15 or higher. SOme pregnancies can survive with a low level of 9 or even 7 my RE told me.
