A question for those who stopped BC pill

I'm just curious how long it took everyone to have their first O after coming off BC. All I keep hearing is that it could "take awhile to get regular again". What's "awhile"? In TCOYF, she says it could be weeks or it could be months. And what's "regular" - actually O'ing or having a predictable # of cycle days?

Last time I came off BC, I didn't O at all for several months. 6 months on Clomid didn't help and nothing ever happened until I used fertinex. But I started AF only 6 weeks after dd was born, so I was hoping that maybe all that's fixed now. Of course, that was 4.5 years ago and I've been on the pill ever since. So now that I'm off the pill and 3.5 weeks into my cycle, I can tell by my temps that O hasn't happened yet and doesn't appear that it will happen in the next couple weeks (temps indicate annovulatory cycle). Since I've had these problems before, how long do I wait before seeing the dr about possibly getting provera to start a cycle? I'm trying to be patient, but I just don't want to wait months since I already know I could potentially have the same problem as last time.

I know that everyone is different, but I'm still interested in trying to figure out how long before I could expect to O after the pill. Anyone want to share with me approx how long so I can see what the "average" is among several people? Thanks!

I got pregnant 2 cycle off with my 1st and 3rd children, and 1st cycle off with my 2nd. I consider myself lucky as alot of people I know take around 6 month after coming off BCPs. HTH a little.

Pam,

I'm sorry to hear you've not ovulated yet, how frustrating.

I don't think this is very helpful, but when I came of the BC pill I had very regular cycles from month #1, also I think they were ovulatory from the first as I did see a bi-phasic temperature pattern in the first month.

Nice regular cycles, but no BFP yet, over a year later!

Personally I would see the dr pretty much straight away...

Good luck, hope you get your ovulation soon....

Same with me. I went off bdp in han/Feb and have had very regular cycles ever since, but no bfp yet. I think I o, but maybe not. Its so frustrationg, I know. If I were you I would get to the doc considering your past experiences.

It's frustrating, huh?

I went off the pill 4/15 and didn't have another period until 8/17 after I went to the Dr and got prometrium (progesterone) to "jump start." And I just got BFP this week.

So I'd say 6 months is normal. I was on BCP for 11 years. Most of my friends had regular periods right away so needless to say I was concerned. I've done tons of reading and it seems that regardless of how long it takes for your cycles to regulate your cycle will be just like it was before BCP.

For me that was very true. My cycles were on the long side 11 years ago and I believe I o'd on cd 31. But we'll see after I go to the DR to get my BFP confirmed!

After my progesterone period, I started taking Vitex, which is an herb that supposedly regulates hormones. There's lots of info on the web about it. I don't know for sure if that helped but I have to think it must have! On the chlomid board I read that it was a natural Chlomid but I don't know if that is true or not. My thinking was that it couldn't hurt!

Good luck to you...I know EXACTLY how you feel!

I stopped BC in October 2000 before conceiving my DD in May. We were not TTC in that time frame but I was charting as part of BC. I think I stopped my pills at the beginning of the month or mid-cycle, I don't remember. I just know I had AF within 2 weeks of the last one. The 1st full cycle was 27 days, and it looks like I ovulated. The next cycles went 37, 31, 38, 39, all with what looks like ovulation. The next cycle I conceived, and I didn't ovulate until day 30, so it would have been my longest cycle. Before BC, I had perfect 28-day cycles. So, I was ovulating and able to conceive, but my cycles were not back to normal even 6 months later.

Good luck and I hope you O soon!

Hi Pam,

I'm a TTC Grad as of last month. I was on Yasmin BC pill for one year. I got off of it on July 26th, then O'd in August but no pregnancy. Then the next month Sept. I o'd again (this was tested with opk's) and did get pregnant! It took me only 2 months. Everyone is different of course but good luck!

I have found with my own experience in stopping BCP's three times that I have gone back to a fairly regular cycle the first month (O roughly 2 weeks after stopping pills), but I know that everyone's experience is different. If you've had this pattern before and think you're heading down the same road again, I would definitely check with your doctor. GL and I hope you get this straightened out soon!
