I am 22 yrs old, and have been TTC #1 since September (so, thats 6 months total, but only 4 cycles) And I started my first round of clomid last cycle. I have a history of long cycles, and late ovulation which is why my Dr. gave me clomid. But from what I have heard, most docs wont just flat out prescirbe it unless their patient is over age 35, past the "normal" maternal age, or has a history of having trouble TTC because of other issues. If you request it earlier then it would just be up to your Dr. to say yes or no and give reasons.
I have a similar story as emnaj. I have been off BCP since July 08, started TTC in Nov 08, so about 5mo, but have only had about 3-4cycles. I've been charting, so I was able to show my dr, in Jan, that my cycles were super long and very irregular. I'm only 25, but because of my long and irregular cycles my dr put me on Clomid just this past cycle. She did basic bloodwork before though. My dr is trying Clomid for me for 3 cycles and if that doesnt work, then she will send me to a RE.
Ask away. Im still fairly new to Clomid, and I didnt even O this cycle on it, so thats why they're upping the dosage.
The bloodwork I had done was testing my TSH, FSH, and a couple other basic hormone levels. I think they did it to make sure my hormone levels were ok before they started any meds. They also had DH do a SA. My hormone levels were "normal" but my dr didnt think I was/am ovulating because of my long and irregular cycles. So thats why she prescribed Clomid.
Hope that helps a little more...but if you have more questions Ill try to answer them with my experiences.
I have O'd each time on the Clomid. The first month I started at 50 mg for 5 days. It worked, but I O'd pretty late (CD 25 I believe). The next month the Dr increased the dose to 50mg for 7 days and I O'd on CD 20. This month I tried the 50mg for 7 days again and I just O'd yesterday (CD 18).
I knew that I stopped Oing because I chart my temperature and use the OPK's. No thermal shift and no + OPK's can only mean one thing: anovulation.
