Questions about OPKs

Hi ladies. I am not terribly familiar with OPKs because never before, throughout TTC 4 children, have I ever had a positive one...until today! So I have a couple of questions.
1: Does the darkness of the 2nd line have anything to do with how close you are to ovulating? The line was very dark, and I'm on my 2nd day of EWCM, so just curious.
2: The instructions say that a positive test means that I'll ovulate in the next 24-48 hours. So does that mean it could be 8 hours, 12 hours, etc., or does the LH surge go back down right before ovulation?
I'm just hoping for the possibility that I'll ovulate sooner than later, because we haven't had sex in 3 days. We're trying for a girl, so I don't want to have sex tonight, in case I end up ovulating tonight or tomorrow. But on the other hand, it's already been 3 days, and if I don't ovulate for another day or two, it may be too late.
I realize there are no certain answers here, but if anyone could answer my questions, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks!

There is a possibility, and at least your timing is good for swaying for a girl.

It's hard to say why they are slower, but we just need to keep people talking!

You could be closer to ovulation because of getting the darker line. The LH surge goes down after you ovulate. It's hard to say how soon you will ovulate, the tests can't really give you that much detail. They only tell you that your body is getting ready.

If you want a better determination your next cycle, you might try charting your basal body temperature. Used in conjunction with OPKs can give you a more accurate picture.
