Really stupid, but I have to ask

I believe I am ovulating today but my dh is sick. I think he has a touch of the flu. Anyway, I hate to be selfish, but I'm afraid if we don't bd tonight then we'll miss our opportunity. Really I have two questions. One, if I ovulated today but don't bd til tomorrow, or even the next day, is it still possible to conceive? And two, there's no way that conception can be affected by him having the flu is there? Like the sperm is weaker, unhealthy, etc? I know, that sounds funny even to ask, but I'm asking anyway. Gosh, I feel like such a dork!

Thanks,

Susan

From what I understand, you must bd today for the best chance. Now, if you bd yesterday or within the last few days before today and you do in fact ovulate today, then you still have a chance. Also, I believe I have read that it actually takes several months for each single sperm to completely mature before it is released, so dh being sick today will not affect his sperm quality. GL to you! There is always a chance that a morning bd would be helpful if your dh can't bd tonight. Either way, GL and I hope your dh feels better soon.

Susan,

Are we always on here at the same time?? Anyway, ideally you want the sperm to be in the fallopian tubes at the time you ovulate. But, I don't think that it is completely impossible to get pregnant if you BD the day after O. I guess anything is possible. As far as the flu, sperm don't really get "sick" so unless he has a fever, which could affect them, I think they are OK.

Thanks you guys. I'm just really anxious to get started trying again. This may not be my ovulation day, but it's very close. I have EWCM, I feel some mild crampiness and my OPK line is as dark as the control line but it's the first time I've ever used it. Hopefully I wont really ovulate til tomorrow or even the next day but I doubt it. Too bad to because I don't think dh is up to it tonight, even if I do all the work :).

Desire', it does seem like we are on here at the same time. I mostly get on here at night after my son goes to bed, but lately I've been on quite a bit. You said something about fever affecting sperm quality. How does that happen?

I think the fever thing has to do with the sperm needing to stay at an optimum temp, thats why "his guys" can go up and down to temp regulate. So with a fever they really can't "get away" from the heat, but I'm sure your fine, just have him go commando this evening to give them a chance to cool down LOL.

Just like a hot tub or "tighty whities" can, when sperm get too hot, they die. Weak suckers if you ask me, but then again, women are the stronger sex. That's why we are the ones to give birth!!

Also, with the OPK's, once you see a positive, you should O in the next 24 to 36 hours. And like someone said earlier, if you've BD'd in the past few days, you should be good too. It's proven now that some sperm can actually live for 5 days in the female reproductive tract! :)
