Robutussin? V8 Splash?

Hi, everyone...

I've been lurking on these boards...posting some, but more just reading. I wanted to know what the significance of Robutussin and V8 Splash are? Also, does caffeine hurt your chances of conceiving? I know you shouldn't have more than a cup or so of coffee everyday, and I usually drink only that, but I was concerned if ANY caffeine (or anything else for that matter) would hurt my chances?

Thanks!

Hi Faith,

I hope I can help you a bit. Robitussin has Guaiffenesin in it, whihc increases your mucous throughout your body, even CM, making it a better enviornment for the semen. When you start AF you begin taking the recommended dose of Robitussin (or generic) several times a day through ovulation. I haven't heard about the V8 Splash but I will also be taking a baby aspirin a day because that helps thin out your lining a bit making it easier for the embryo to implant. I did this while doing IVF and got pregnany with quintuplets so I know it works.

Good luck!

So you start taking the Robitussin when you start AF? When do you take the baby aspirin, do you take them a the same time?

Does Robitussin only work for those who have problems with their CM or is it good for anyone

I just read in Getting Pregnant Naturally by Winifred Conkling that Robitussin works for everyone. Thinner CM makes it easer for sperm to move through the reproductive organs. She says to take one or two teaspoons a day starting three or four days before ovulation.

As for caffiene, she cites studies that say it's all around bad but I don't drink much either and can't imagine giving it up unless I really, really have to and when pregnant, of course.

Hope that helps. Don't know about the baby aspirin.

Are you saying V8 Splash is good or bad? If bad, it might be because of the amount of vitamin A in it, otherwise I don't know.

You are right, it might be b/c of the vitamins...I've just seen it mentioned a couple of times in the same context as Robutussin, so I thought it was another "little helper" from the grocery store shelves.

Thanks for your insight, everyone! I appreciate it. I think I may try the Robutussin thing. While this is our second month TTC, I have been trying to monitor my CM every now and then for several months now. I was on the pill for almost 10 years and went off in April so I could get myself ready for TTC. No matter when it is in my cycle, I have never seen egg white. I don't know if it's b/c I'm not looking for the right thing, or what. My CM is always creamy at best, but normally is the consistency of a really cheap lotion (i.e. not really thick and definitely not sticky, but not egg white either). Anyone else out there experience this?

Thanks again!

Faith
