Saccharin in tooth paste....

So I know that 'saccharin' is not supposed to be consumed in pregnancy because it crosses the placenta, but after searching online for a new tooth paste flavor (I'm sick of mint! lol), I read the ingredients of about a dozen commercially available and very popular toothpaste brands that contain saccharin as the sweetener in every single one of them. How can this be and why isn't there a warning label on them?

Well, I never checked my toothpaste during my first pregnancy, but I do know that when I was breastfeeding, I asked my OB and pediatrician about teeth whitening and they both said that since it wasn't swallowed, it wouldn't get into my system and it should be fine. I opted to wait anyway just because I wanted to be sure, but I feel like the same would apply to toothpaste. I don't even think it would be in your mouth long enough to get into tissue or anything, but if you're worried ask your OB. :)
