Semen or CM????
| Sat, 10-18-2008 - 9:28pm |
DH and I had fun last night and today when I checked my cm for my charting I noticed what I think is EWCM but since we DTD last night I was wondering if its semen or CM? It was definately clear, and it stretched about a half inch to an inch and was shiny. I have noted it a few times today, tonight even.....would semen be there all the way into tonight close to 20 hours later? or is this ewcm? I also noted some good one sided twinges and increased cramping yesterday and today....so I was thinking maybe I ovulated?

Not sure how true it is, but I have read that if you do the "glass test" aka take a sample and put it in water, if it's CM, it will ball up and sink to the bottom. Anyone hear of this?
I found some info on this:
From the book:
cervical fluid and basic vaginal secretions.
quote:
p. 87, point 13.
If you find it hard to differentiate between cervical fluid and basic vaginal secretions, remember that cervical fluid is insoluble. A little trick that can help you initially learn to tell the difference is the glass of water test. Take the sample between two fingers and dip it into a glass of water. If it is true cervical fluid, it will usually form a blob that sinks to the bottom. If it's basic vaginal secretions, it will simply dissolve.
quote:
Make sure not to confuse semen with cervical fluid. They look and feel very similar. Semen will dry up very quickly upon your fingertips and is more rubbery is consistency. It may also tend to be foamy. Semen is little more white in color rather than clear like eggwhite fluid. To help you identify the difference, when urinating eggwhite cervical fluid will often hit the water and form into a ball while it sinks to the bottom .
quote:
If you find that you have more watery or eggwhite days than you would expect and that these often follow days or nights that you had intercourse, then you may be mistaking seminal and cervical fluid. They are quite similar but you will find that fertile cervical fluid (eggwhite) is clear and stretchy and shiny. It will stretch a couple of inches without breaking. Semen may be more whitish and will break when pulled.
quote:
Be aware that semen can mask true cervical fluid. Semen at a glance looks a lot like the egg-white type fluid - it's fairly clear and it stretches. However semen will "break" easier that cervical fluid, and semen will evaporate much quicker than cervical fluid. Be sure to mark on your chart when you have intercourse, to help in determining the type of cervical fluid you find.
It could be still in there, you can do the water test which i think was mentioned - semen will kind of dissolve, Cm won't.
but in any case, only stretching 0.5 to 1.0 inch is not very egg white-y, it may be your first bit of EWCm (which strteches more like 4-6 inches)
the pain may be your follicle preparing to Ovulate! sounds like you will be Oing soon, so go have some more 'fun' with D! ;-)

that does not really sound like EWCM. EWCM truly is the consistancy of raw egg white!!
do you ever look down (TMI) to see if you see it leaking out of you into the toilet BEFORE you wipe? because it can be easy to miss. i dont even feel it sometimes when it comes out, i am just in the habit of looking down there, lOL. i see it leak out, then i wipe , and i see how much less it on the TP.
one does not need EWCM, you might just have watery cm, which is basically watered down EWCM, it is like spit, or even close to...water - it is like a squirt of pee!! Watery CM is VERY Easy to miss, since it is so thin & liquidy. Watery CM is fertile CM, too, so if you have it (and not EWCM) you are fine. again, look in the toilet after you pee, and see if you ever see it come out.
i don't know if you do or do not have EWCm yet - but a thought is that you might want to look into supplements, product, and diet to help increase it. i do not know a LOT about that, but there is truth to it. some foods help you produce more, some foods (and allergy/cold medicines, etc) make you produce LESS, so look into it!!!!
