Short, sharp pain in cervix

This is not necessarily related to TTC - I don't think so, anyway.
Does anyone else occasionally get a short, sharp pain that seems to originate in the cervix? I've been noticing this for a bit, even before I got married. I'm only now going to try to notice a pattern (i.e. certain time in the cycle, etc.). It may or may not be accompanied by sudden cm production (that is, it was tonight, but I don't know if that's so generally).
Any insights or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated.

I have been experiencing pain as well, however it feels more like it originates in my ovary rather than my cervix. It's been occurring since I went off the pill, which was in May. Since then I've had 2 episodes of pain both on my right side. The first time lasted for about 8 hours and consisted of sharp shooting pains. I was really worried thinking everything from ectopic pregnancy to an ovarian cyst.
Then I got my next episode this last week, and it lasted consistently for 24 hours and then tapered off over the last few days. I'm seeing my gyno in about 2 weeks, but this forum has really helped me calm down.
What we may be experiencing is called "mittleschmerz" (sp?), which is mid-cycle pain (ovulation). They say that it usually occurs approximately 12-14 days from the 1st day of your last period and can last a few hours to a few days.
Although my periods since going off the pill have been wacko (right now a 44 day cycle!),Im hoping this next month will be a little more "normal". Definitely hoping that Im actually feeling ovulation...makes conception a little easier esp since I'm having a hard time charting.
Keep in touch...I really have found this forum to be incredibly helpful!
Kim Marie, those definately sound like mid-cycle pains. It's good to get them checked out, but I'm sure you're fine - I get those, too, and I take it as a good sign that I'm ovulating.
Soprano, I'll do a little research and maybe ask my doctor about the cervical pain (yours is in the cervix, like mine, no?) and let you know if I find out anything interesting. May I be so bold as to ask if 1965 is your birth year? If so, we're about the same age...and perhaps it's one of the pleasures of one's 30s. Please don't be insulted if you're NOT my age - I'm just looking at your user name!
Thanks again!

I just recently started experiencing mittelschmerz with ovulation, and the cervix pains are different, at least for me. They are really low and sharp. You know, they actually felt like when I was really early in pg with my DS, which in that case was uterine stretching. I wonder if anything like this happens throughout the cycle also? It's weird all of the things we start noticing when TTC huh! I usually wouldn't worry about it too much unless it became chronic, in which case I might suspect an infection or UTI.
Oh the 1965 was totally random choice by yahoo :-) I will be 25 this Friday!
