Sperm Analysis Results-- help!
| Fri, 08-08-2003 - 8:49am |
Hi Everyone!
DH has gotten his results back from the semen analysis and his Dr was not too helpful in interpreting them. I am going to a fert specialist in two weeks so I know I can get a lot of answers then, but I just thought I'd run it by you all to see if anyone can help us understand. I'll write it just the way they did since I'm not sure what all the abreviations mean:
Sperm Volume: 2.0
Sperm pH: 8.5
Sperm mot 1 hr progr*: 55
Sperm mot 1 hr non-p*: 45
Sperm Motility Total: 75
Sperm Count: 124.0
Semen Viscosity: Normal
Mainly I don't know about the 3 motility numbers. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

In case anyone else is interested the website is actually http://www.wernermd.com/semenanalysis.htm (the .com part was missing in your post.)
Thanks so much for the info. I'm still a bit confused about the different motility numbers. Maybe there's someone else out there who knows...

I understand how confusing the test results are. My DH has had 2 SA's, and I found it difficult to figure out what the "normal" parameters were also.
Here's are my thoughts (and I'm by no means an expert!):
Sperm Motility Total: 75 - I believe this is the inital sperm motility, and most drs and labs like to see this number >60% (and some >50%). So 75% seems really good.
Sperm mot 1 hr progr*: 55 - The lab tests motility at one hour, and this is the % of sperms that are still moving (i.e., living)
Sperm mot 1 hr non-p*: 45 - % that are not moving at one hour
Personally I think all the numbers look good. I hope this helps. Good luck with your RE appt. in 2 weeks. I hope you get lots of answers.
