Sperm Question..
| Thu, 10-09-2003 - 11:05am |
Warning: the question is kinda blunt.
Is it true that the longer a man waits to ejaculate.. the more of his "waiting" sperm ..
die?
How long can sperm live (after being produced in his body).. before they die?
(I have a real reason for asking this)
Thanks for your help.

(before ejaculation)..
I know that sperm isn't produced at the exact time ejaculation.. they've already been
produced and are waiting.. I just can't remember how long they live before he.. um..
"shoots blanks".. lol...
Thanks for helping.

Well...going by the info we got when doing a s/a... yes they can "die" or at least get old and feeble if not ejaculated for a long time. You want "fresh" sperm for TTC (and s/a) so they recommend ejaculation about 3-5 days before the s/a for the freshest sample- I will assume that is the same that you would want when bding. If DH has not ejaculated in weeks or whatever they will be old and not viable.
Does this help, Jen?

Sperm production is a constant thing, every moment there are sperm dying and sperm being created (within the testes). I think the hold thing before a S/A is to build up a good quantity "sample". If DH doesn't ejaculate for weeks, some will die, but just as many new ones will be being produced, plus he will just end having a wet dream (sorry TMI) but that is the body's natural regulatory system, if you/he are not letting them out *snicker* the body will let them out for you LOL.
Could you be more specific with your question? TMI does not matter here plus remember this is anonymous we have no Idea who you are so don't be embarrassed to be even more "blunt".
If your question is coming from the BD every other day area, that is mostly for men with Low Sperm Counts, the every other day allows there to be "more" sperm in the BD thereby giving a better chance of Fertilization. Without a low sperm count, BD'ing every day during ovulation is the norm.
FYI I think the actual production time of sperm for total turnover start to death is 3 months. I get this number from the Male Infertility Board where I asked a question because DH was in an accident 11 years ago with some testicular swelling and I was questioning whether or not it would affect our TTC chances.
Good luck!!!!!

I knew I had read it somewhere....and going through male fertility sites I have saved this is what I found:

It's more of an issue with dh being too sick.. or in too much pain..
and.. for the record.. there've been no wet dreams. (really)
Thanks for your response.

I look at it kindof like skin renewal, some is always falling off, but some is always coming up new under it. However, regular exfoliation is good to keep it new and shiney..... LOLOL
My response was coming from it sounding like she was wondering if an entire "batch" of sperm went bad...and you had to wait for a new batch to get ready.
Could be me misreading though I think I've had too much coffee today LOLOLOL.
It does seem, though.. from the info provided (all together).. that it really IS useless
to ttc at this point in time. :( (can I cry now??)
*now I think I'm depressed/really upset*
Oh well.. That's life, I guess.. :(

I think we confused you with our posts. Just because DH hadn't "released" in a while due to his illness (I read your other post in 2ww) doesn't mean all his sperm are dead, not by a long shot. Don't over stress yourself, you have just as much of a chance as anyone!!!!
The references to releasing often etc are for "best case scenarios" and by no way, shape or means, mean that if you don't follow them you won't get PG!!!!!!!!!!!
