She got my labs back and diagnosed me with a LP defect. She wants to start me on Clomid right away. This cycle won't work for me. She prescribes from day 4-9 and I was day 4 yesterday. That's o.k. with me. I have hopes (because I'm insane!) that by the grace of God I'll conceive this month and won't have to go through with the meds.

She said if I don't conceive after a few months on Clomid, she'll refer me to an RE. Scary stuff, but it's good to have a dr. that is proactive.

Just needed to vent! Good luck to everyone!

Hi Becky!

Do you have the script for the Clomid? ALOT of ladies are prescribed to take it cycle days 5 - 9.

Check out the Clomid board - it is a couple of boards down from the TTC board.

I am on my first round of Clomid right now, but my Dr prescribed it cycle days 1 - 5. (Which isnt the norm I think).

Anyway, my point is that if you have the prescription, you could fill it and start taking it today.

Take it at night before bed too. The side effects are bad sometimes. Most ladies say they get dizzy and taking before bed is the best idea. I took mine before bed every night and it worked really well. Whenever I woke up to go to the restroom, I could tell that I was a little off balance and dizzy. Also, drink ALOT of water because it dehydrates you bigtime.

Hope this helps!

I really would start it today if you are only on your 5th cycle day. (no reason to not start the ball rolling!) HAHA

Check out the Clomid board - there are alot of us there and like I said before, alot of the girls are taking it on cyle day 5.

Good luck to you!!!!

((((HUGS)))))

STephanie

p.s. if you dont have the prescription, maybe you could call the nurse and see if they could call it in for you.

Another thing, if you chart - you'll notice that your temps are a little higher than norm on Clomid.

HAve a great day!

Thanks for the info, but the doc wants to see me first. I have an appt. in 2 weeks. To tell you the truth, I'm a little nervous and would rather wait until next cycle.

It's nice to know there are others in my situation. I'll be sure to check out the Clomid board.

Thanks again!

Becky,

OK, I am no expert when it comes to clomid, but I thought clomid made you ovulate. I thought progesterone is what you use to treat LP problems?

Becky and Chanda,

I too have luteal phase defect. My RE has me on 100 mg clomid, also on prometrium (progesterone) after I O. But I did do just clomid 50 mg for several months and yes, it does help luteal phase defect. I would spot right after O all the way until I started AF. While on Clomid, I did not spot at all. I'm not sure but I think the hormones it contains is what helps. Sorry I can't give more info. This month I decided to not take the Clomid but just the prometrium, I should O tomorrow, so I'll let you know how the luteal phase does this cycle. Good Luck, I hope you get your BFP without taking the med's. +++++++vibes coming to both of you!

Kate

PS) I did notice than my ewcm was non-existent while on clomid (which is common), so next time I'm going to use Preseed, this month without the Clomid I have TONS of ewcm...just my 2 cents.

Chanda,

You are correct that progesterone supplements are often given to lenghten LP's. However, some Dr's feel that an earlier and stronger ovulation will in turn give you a longer LP. That's why they would prescribe Clomid for LP defects.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, ladies. I never knew they used Clomid just for LPs. You learn something every day :)

(((HUGS))) I'm sorry to hear that news... but the good news is this can be "cured." If this cycle doesn't work out, the Clomid can be a good step in the right direction for you. If you should need to, or if you just have some Clomid questions for some of us going through the process already, please feel free to stop by the Clomid board.
