Hi there....I am about to do my first IUI within the week, so I can't tell you if it's successful yet. :(
I can tell you that we've only been trying for 6 months, which is considered a short time in the TTC world. However, it's been SOME 6 months, let me tell you. We've been very aggressive from day one and are blessed to have been referred early on to one of the most well-known fertility specialists in our area. It turns out that while my DH's sperm is fine, and my tubes are clear and I ovulate, I have issues with my cervix. I had surgery to correct it, but the doc still suggested we try IUI right out of the gate. The past 6 months have been very difficult for me emotionally, so we agreed to give it some thought and decided to go for it. Could we conceive without IUI?? Probably eventually, but after all I'd been through we decided to go for it. Plus, I trust this doctor completely and his suggestion carries a lot of weight with us. He was the only one able to detect what was wrong with me after months of seeing other doctors and being poked and prodded.
We are also blessed to have insurance that DOES pay for this. We've only had to shell out a little cash to meet our deductible for the meds involved. Some people do IUI without meds, but I'm on injectables.
Good luck!!
********************************************************************* Cycle 1 - BFN. Was told I have polycystic ovaries. The fertility obession begins. Day 3 Blood Work - Appears to be normal, with slightly high prolactin. Must re-do next cycle. Cycle 2 - DH's s/a came back normal. BFN - AF arrived early. Cycle 3 - Day 3 Blood Work re-do is normal. Could not do HSG...long story. Have an appt. with the local fertility genius in mid-May. O'ed early, no chance for a BFP this cycle, which was my first 28 day cycle in YEARS! Cycle 4 - Day 3 b/w is normal yet again. Back to my regular cycle length. Using CBEFM and OPKs, not temping. Learned that I DO NOT have PCOS, but do have an obstructed cervix. Surgery to correct in early July. Cycle 5 - Had surgery to correct cervix, as well as HSG (tubes clear), endometrial biopsy, hysteroscopy, and more. Cysts removed from tubes, and a fibroid removed. Getting ready to start IUI. Cycle 6 - Preparing for IUI #1. Doing injections - 75IU of Follistim daily.
