Temp charting question...need some help

What I think is my AF started Friday after being 7 days late. It's not really a normal period, because I have had semi-heavy bleeding that only lasted about 1 1/2 days and now I'm just really spotting here and there (normal period is heavy bleeding days 1-3 then it starts to taper off on days 4 and 5, but it's always a full 5 days).

Anyway, I'm going to say that this is AF, so I started charting on Friday. What should my temps look like? Are they low during mentration? Is there anything in particular I should be looking for before, during or after ovulation as far as temp variation? I've heard something about a dip and a rise, but I'm not exactly sure when that's suppose to happen. This charting thing is very new to me and I need some help.

Anyone interested in showing me the ropes?

Thanks,

Susan

You typically have 2 levels of temps during your cycle: a lower set of temps before ovulation, and a higher set of temps after ovulation. The low temp day before your temperature shift to the high set is the day you ovulated; you can only know it in retrospect.

For more info, I highly recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler - it will let you know everything to look out for. For snippets, you can visit the website at www.tcoyf.com. You can also check out the FF Handbook and the free online charting tool at www.fertilityfriend.com.

Good luck to you!
