Temps can vary this much? Anyone?

I wonder if my temps reflect an LP defect or a low progesterone. I had a prog. level drawn this week (post-O)and it was 0.6!!! My OB said that is normal for not being pg, but I just thought it should be higher post-O. He said that was fine. I remember getting a prog. level taken in the first week while pg with my last and it was 30! Now, I know I was pg, but I was expecting a level like 10 or something this time. I know this is why my pg this month did not implant. I must have no lining! I am exclusively BFing a 4 month old, so it could very well be that my lining is not suitable. However, I know for sure that I did O and that we did conceive. Most literature on BFing and ttc says that the hardest part is conceiving. We know that we are able to achieve that part. Now, my temp question: I take my temp religiously at 6am, it has been around 97.7 post-O. Then, without ever getting out of bed inbetween, I take it at 8am and it is 98.3 or at least up to 98.0 (sometimes higher!). What happens during the waking hours? I have been cramping terribly (like AF is here for sure) in the evening hours, but no AF! I am now 15dpo, not pg and no AF? My temp dropped this am to 97.0 at 6am and 97.9 at 8am, so I am wondering if AF will arrive soon. Anyway, how can I accurately temp if my temps vary so much? Could this be an LP defect? My OB said that there is no harm in ttc, but I don't want a chem pg to happen again if I can avoid it. He knows nothing about temps or CP (funny how little they really know about actual fertility signs). I have the book, TCOYF, but lost it in our move. :-( I will need to buy it again. Thanks for reading this long post and for any insight! I know that you ladies are a wealth of knowledge ;-)
