Thinking of a vacay from temping...

I'm now onto cycle #4. We tried cycles 1 and 2, and last cycle we messed up (I O'ed early and we hadn't been BDing). AF just arrived and I'm on to cycle 4, and I'm seriously considering not temping this cycle. Initially I was concerned that I wasn't ovulating on my own. After temping for the past few cycles, I'm convinced I am. The temping did reassure me of that, and it was also useful in keeping track of the days of my cycle.
However, I've mentioned that I was temping to three different doctors, and they all told me, not in so many words, not to bother. I was surprised by this, and the first doctor told me that it's far too inaccurate, even under the best of circumstances. One movement, a screwy thermometer...there are so many things that can affect a chart and make things look different than they actually are. He also told me that a temperature chart can become something else to stress out about...and I have found myself stressing about my chart/temps in the past. He said that if I'm ovulating on my own, and they are pretty confident I am, not to temp. If I do continue, they advised me to take it with a grain of salt, so to speak.
After we realized there was no chance last cycle, I stopped temping. Now AF is here, and if I'm going to start, I would start after AF is over. But I think I'm going to try a few cycles without temping....
OK, I guess I just needed to vent that for some reason.
SIGH.

Cycle 1 - BFN. Diagnosed with PCOS.
Day 3 Blood Work - Appears to be normal, with slightly high prolactin. Must re-do next cycle.
Cycle 2 - DH's s/a came back normal. BFN - AF arrived early.
Cycle 3 - Day 3 Blood Work re-do is normal. Could not do HSG...long story. Have an appt. with the local fertility genius in mid-May. O'ed early, no chance for a BFP this cycle, which was my first 28 day cycle in YEARS!!! woo hoo
Cycle 4 - Must do Day 3 b/w for the 100th time.

While I will agree that
You are probably right....I'm sure the docs didn't know (and I didn't even get into it with them) about CP and CM and all that other jazz. They probably assume that I was just taking my temp every morning.
And like I said, temping DID reassure me that I was ovulating on my own, which I doubted in the beginning. It helped me pinpoint the exact day of ovulation, and know I know that I tend to ovulate around day 19 or so. However, after ovulating early last month and therefore totally missing my chance (my fault for not BDing anyway, of course - I'm not blaming temping obviously lol) I abandoned temping and realized how much calmer I was. Of course, that could also be because I wasn't stressing about "am I?" because I knew I couldn't be.
In any event, I'm totally taking a break. I will still use the OPKs and the fertility monitor. I might go back to charting in a few cycles if I feel like it will bring me more insight into whats going on. Right now, I'm over it.
Thanks to everyone for listening and responding. This is so frustrating, as I'm sure you all know!!!

Ditto to what the others have said. Your drs are the first ones I've heard of who have had that view of temping...but I guess that's true for a myriad of things, not just ttc. I hope you are able to find some relief in taking a break from temping...you never know, this could work for you. :o) Best of luck!
