In remembrance of the 9/11 events two years ago, lets take a moment to think back on this day. I would like to hear everyone's story from that day. Where were you when you first heard of the events happening and what held the most significance for you?

I was at work when one of the customer service workers came back and said a plane just flew into the world trade centre! We didn't beleive him- no- not possible! Then we thought, well...it must be some little Cesna or something- a one man plane. I went up front where the receptionist was listening to the radio and as I stood there the announcer says "OMG! Another plane! Another plane just flew into the second tower!!!" The panic in his voice was chilling. We were all stunned. Not much work was done this day- everyone was in shock and anxious for more information.

I hope we never go through this again.

I live in Missouri, and I did not know anyone in the attacks. I just turned on the tv and saw it. The first plane had just hit. I was watching as the 2nd plane hit. the news man was still talking bout what might have happened and I was just sitting there saying look news guy theres another one, than we all relized that this was no accident. After it sunk in what happened I relized that my mom and step dad were flying that day, they were going to Floridia. they were in the air when the attacks happened. I was really worried. they were no were near NY, they only made it as far as st. louis. but at the time we did not know if there would be more attacks or what. they called as soon as they heard and could get to a phone. they were stuck in st. louis for 3 or 4 days. Once I new my mom was ok I just started crying. I still cry sometimes. Its so sad. And I feel so guilty because I feel so blessed that my mom and our family was safe that day. And so many others were not. I love the storie diane sawyer does every year about the children of 9/11. there all so cute. And its good to know that even though it was such a tragic day that there is still so much good in the world and that life does go on. God bless everyone!!!

2 years later. On my way to work this morning that song came on "Proud to be an American" and I just broke down.

I live in NJ right across the river from NYC and was right in the middle of it all when it happened. That morning I woke up and headed to a training class in NJ instead of going to my regular job at that time in NYC. I remember what a beautiful day it was, kinda like today. I get to the classroom and my friend greets me and drags me to the window and all I saw was smoke. It was 9am. At this point we had no idea what had happened and it wasn't until the 2nd plane hit that we knew something just wasnt right. We sat there and watched the TV, tears on everyones eyes. I mean we are literally 10 minutes from all of it and we started thinking about our family and friends that were in the middle of it all. Cell phones were all down, we couldn't get through to anyone. So at about 9:30 they told us to all go home to be with our families. I'm driving on the NJ turnpike that has the most amazing view of the city and thats when I saw the building collapse right in front of my eyes. I'm sure you all saw it on TV but to witness it right in front of your eyes what a nightmare! I didn't lose anyone close to me that day but I did lose over 2,000 neighbors, fire fighters and policeman.

I was at work when my mother called me. She had been watching Good Morning America when they reported that a plane had crashed in the Tower 1. That's when she called me. I thought, like many others, that it must have been a small private plane. She called me back a minute later to report that they did not think it was a small plane, when she screamed and started crying, as she had watched on TV as the 2nd plane hit. I was numb as I realyed the information to coworkers.

Most of us were terrified. Being from Boston, where 2 planes took off and working on the 35th floor of our building just across from Logan airport added to our fear. You just weren't sure what was going to happen next. The TV's in the executives offices were turned on. The rest of us monitored the internet. The CFO told us when the Towers came down.

Shortly thereafter, they closed the whole financial district of Boston. No cell phones worked. The streets were flooded with people. And cops were everywhere. I had to take the subway to my husband's office. I was terrified that that's where the next strike would be - underground. I made it there, but his office did not let out as early.

We did not talk on the way home. But I remember this one image vivdly. We were turning into our neighborhood when I saw this jogger crossing at the lights in front of us. He was shirtless carrying a waving American Flag. That really touched me like nothing else! In fact I am getting teary just thinking about it.

Luckily all of my coworkers were scheduled to fly to CA the following day. They were all OK. But I have one friend that lost 6 members of her office on the flights.

Thank you for listening and letting me share.

Ugh. (((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) I know it was so traumatic to even watch and hear about- to actually witness it must have been just horrible.

Tara,

I'll tell ya, you come up with the best posts, polls and questions on this board!!

My story on 9/11/01

I was laid off from work, about 4 weeks and was still in bed around 9:00 a.m. and went downstairs to turn on the TV for a few before I began the internet job search and saw all this smoke, fire and a building on fire then to my amazement, it was TWC and still not registering that it was a terroist act, I thought I plane accidentially crashed into the Trade Center until I saw the 2nd plane right on TV.

That whole month from that day forward, I was glued to the TV, cried almost every night I watched for the killed loved ones and had terrible nightmares after watching the news.

It was an awful and emotional day that we'll all never ever foget.

God Bless!

(((hugs))))) to everyone. I know this is a difficult day for many people.

I was at home with a terrible sinus infection and 5 months pregnant with my DD. I was watching the Today Show when Matt Lauer stopped an interview to give the news. At that time they thought it was just a small 1 person plane. I called my DH at work immediately and was on the phone with him when the 2nd plane hit. I was glued to the TV for the rest of the day. I remember feeling so scared since there was a lot of speculation about the next target. I was begging my DH to come home from work (he stayed the whole day). I also remember that DD was soooo active that day, I think feeling all of the stress.

Last year on 9/11 I gave DD a big hug and thought about how important it was to me (and all of us) to have and raise our children to be kind/loving individuals. As parents/parents to be we have the power to bring good into the world!!!

My heart goes out to everyone who lost someone in the towers, PA, and the Pentagon.

God Bless.

I was in D.C. when the attacks occurred. I worked in the city and lived in the suburbs. I was sitting in my office when I heard. Reports ran rampant about other nearby sites being hit, bombed, shots being fired on the National Mall, etc..., so it was quite scary to be in the middle of the city...within sight of the Washington Monument. Needless to say, it was chaotic, devasting, and disheaterning to be hearing all that was happening. I had taken the metro (our public transit) to work that day, so I had no car. My family and husband were frantic having me in the city and wanted to come get me, but there was simply no chance of that. I also didn't want to get back on public transit...due to crowds, reports that it was closed, and the possibility of an attack on the rail system. So a few of my co-workers and I decided to stay put and lean on each other as the day unfolded. Eventually they declared a State of Emergency in the city and we were forced to evacuate. At that point there was an eery quiet throughout the entire city...I'll never forget it. The next day I found out that a friend of mine was on the first plane to hit the towers. He wasn't a close friend, but just to have a face to put to the terror made it so much more real for me. Viewing the Pentagon in person also had quite an impact. It's all simply unimaginable...but then again it's not, because it happened. Never in my life will I ever be able to get my head around the fact that a person(s) could perform such an insanely inhuman act of violence...here in the U.S., and everywhere else that it occurs much more frequently. It's just so sad. But you have to encourage your spirits, and those of others, to live on and enjoy the freedoms that we do have. I hope that this finds everyone in peace.

Can't believe it's been two years already...

My DH and I always wake up to our alarm clock/radio... That morning, we awoke to the tragic story.. I remember we just laid there in eachothers arm in disbelief. We didn't believe it at first..

I was a Chef/Manager of a restaurant in Downtown Disneyland (Anaheim) at the time, and within 30 minutes, I was called and told not to come into work. Disney had closed for the day.. since it was a possible terrorist target. Over the following two months, we had another closed day and 4 or 5 evacuations due to terrorist threats.

A woman at my mom's work has a sister that works in the World Trade Center. She takes her two daughters to work every day and puts them in the daycare there... She had a terrible migrane that morning and called in sick... they were all safe because of it.

I now live in a small mountain community, and this morning, there are hundreds of people walking the streets around our lake with signs of rememberance..

... My thoughts go to all those who have loved and lost, and to the thousands of men and women who lost their lives needlessly while going about their usual daily life... and to all of the heroic service men and women who risked (and some lost)everything to save us.
