???Thyroid issues???

Do any of you have issues with your thyroid? I had my yearly exam yesterday. I told the doctor about my problems trying to conceive and the extremely light AF's, most spotting, that I've had now for 3 mos. I have yet to have a normal AF since going on bcp several mos. ago. I thinks it could be due to a thyroid problem. I had my blood taken yesterday and should have the results either today or tomorrow.

Also, it said perhaps I should go back on the pill for 2 cycles to hopefully kick-start things again. I think this is a horrible idea.

Has anyone else's doctor told them this? The pill is the reason why I'm in the whole mess. I now refer the bcp as the devil's pill. It has so messed my body up.

Any input is appreciated.

TIA ~Erika

I would think that he would put you on thyroid meds to clear it up not back on the pill???

Thyroid problems run in my family, its a daily pill not really a big deal, the only issue is getting the dosage right, too much makes you hyper, too little and you're a slug still. That is the only problem "we" have ever had, and that just took a few weeks of playing with the dosage to fix.

Wait for your test results before making any decisions, and then ask him why BCP vs. Thyroid Meds.

The bcp was a seperate thing. The Dr. said that if it wasn't a thyroid problem, then going back on the pill may help jump start things again.

I haven't heard back from the Dr. yet, so I'm taking that as a good sign that nothing is wrong. Plus, I don't really fit the description of having thyroid issues.

Hugs I thought the same thing until I read up on fibroids. They can help shrink them. I think it did say something about throids there too. I would do some research and see what they are saying helps assist. GL and let us know what the doc says.

Personally, I would wait for the results (which obviously you are) and address the thyroid issue if you in fact have one! Low thryroid is common and many women (they say 25% of hypothyroid women never knew they were low). It is treated with synthroid. Your doc probably wants to rule that out since it can prevent women from conceiving as easily as others. I too am waiting for my results for thyroid test, but not because I am having troucle conceiving but it runs in my family and I may have s few other symptoms.

I recommend (just my opinion) staying away from the pill altogether if you are TTC. I think Doctors overuse the pill. They put me on it when I was 16 because I had ovarian cysts, which come to find out are NORMAL unless they are huge, because this is how the egg matures and leaves your ovary !!! 16 years old. I haven't taken it since! Perhaps your body just needs to adjust being off the pill. Sometimes it talkes 6 months to get back to normal. I am surprised your doc didn't tell you that!

Anyway,good luck!
