Time between O and AF

Can someone please explain to me how many days there should be between ovulation and AF. I read somewhere that there should be exactly 14 days between the time you ovulate and the time you get AF. Is that true? So on a 28 day cycle you would O on cd14 but on a 32 day cycle you would O on cd18. But, it's always 14 days before AF?
Thanks,
Susan

There are too many places that only talk about a perfect 28 day cycle! Not too many people actually fit that description!
What they should say is that for most women, the time from O to AF is pretty constant and usually ranges from 12-16 days, but for each person it is usally the same from cycle to cycle. THis is the luteal phase. Many people have even shorter LP (and I assume some longer). It is true that most variation in cycle length in a specific woman is due to the ovulation date, which can vary. Some people always O on the same day and others vary by a lot (see the sisters of irregularity section of the board)
So when you see those generalized discussions, take them with a grain of salt!
Hope this helps you! I think its too bad the the perfect 28 cycle is so talked about and women aren't taught how much it can vary!
Also, buy "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. It totally saved me. I've learned so much from the book as well as these boards. We tried for only 5 months (3 of those my DH was in San Diego and I was in Chicago). I'm not out of the "danger zone" yet, but today I'm 5w preggers!
Good luck to you and don't read too much!!
